I mean yes it was a very disappointing end to the season /and we had a terrible home record but let's not forget we got ten more points than last season, had a brilliant away record had some big wins and we were in the hunt for Europe till the last day, depends how you look at it really. We should be targeting players who want to take a step up anyway not those looking to step down and aren't attracted to us because we aren't automatic top six/four... We need players who want to push us into that bracket because the vast majority of our team couldn't be arsed against Sheffield United, which if we had won we could have easily got Europe. I think the Premier league is still a pull Leicester finished 9th twice for example and have built a squad that's consistently challenging for top four and won a cup. It's not impossible if you recruit shrewdly. Its hard to see what players of any calibre would want to come to us. Last season we finished 8th and with CA in charge it would have been easy to imagine we could kick on. Then signing James, Allan and Doucoure BUT another season on we have no European football, not even the Intertoto substitute and finished 2 places lower than the previous season playing turgid football. I know everyone will say we finished 10 points better off but as a top player looking at the league do you think they will research previous points totals, or just look at the teams finishing above us?
My point is at what point does just signing for CA end? What sort of players can we realistically attract? Or even afford? IF we cant attract or afford top players is there any point in having a top coach like CA.
I think last seasons performances/results will have damaged our reputation when it seemed like we was on the up. I did say it was a massive mistake not to back CA in the market in January and like clockwork the end of season crash happened.
I think the long and short of it is that we need to move ALOT of players on, I just cant see anyone wanting them as they are pure crap, the resell value for the outlay is minimal, and we have players happy to see out their contracts.
That will hinder any buys which will mean as usual we will doing all our business at the tail end of the window with most of this squad starting next season. As much as alot on here will protest we are in a sell to buy scenario....... The glass ceiling has been hit and it would be a mercurial effort by MB and CA to turn this squad in to European challengers next season where you expect the top 6 and Leicester to fill all the European places whilst you`d imagine West Ham and Leeds will improve again. We have actually fallen behind more clubs in one season. EVERTON THAT!
I don't want to start a whole thing about this here but I really feel like the "we did 10 points better than last year" is relied on way too often without context. Points really don't matter as much as final placement. The bottom of the league was absolutely awful this year, the CL places had less than normal. 72 points in Martinez season one don't matter as much as Moyes finishing 4th. We could finish with less points next year but in 6th, would you say that we had a better year this year because we had more points? Context is key.I mean yes it was a very disappointing end to the season /and we had a terrible home record but let's not forget we got ten more points than last season, had a brilliant away record had some big wins and we were in the hunt for Europe till the last day, depends how you look at it really. And a cm and a lw and a backup striker, and maybe a backup lbIt's not that hard to see what we need
Rw

All under 26 please and no bad injuries record
It's not an excuse and yes position is more important than points but to say we didn't make any progress on 12th, is not true either. Even if it was only minimal and very frustrating when Europe was there for the taking. But to be honest I lay that mostly on the players, recruitment, mentality and a lack of a system...we still could have easily got Europe if the players actually turned up on several occasions at home. For me the acceptance of defeat mentality from top to bottom, is perhaps our biggest issue as a club.I don't want to start a whole thing about this here but I really feel like the "we did 10 points better than last year" is relied on way too often without context. Which they didn't. Because they are bottlers. Abject wastes. And I wouldn't/won't even be the slightest bit upset at literally any one of them leaving. It's not an excuse and yes position is more important than points but to say we didn't make any progress on 12th, is not true either. CA is only here a few years so he wants to achieve it's natural so he is going for "proven" but their age and injuries hit us in the back end of the season. Also the juxtaposition is it's going to take more than one or two windows to solve our issues we need a rebuild and maybe he isn't the right coach for that. But then that's the contradiction of Everton and most clubs we want results now and a plan for the future.... And yes Brands has really been largely disappointing. Leaving us with big holes in the squad, short of some of the key attributes needed for this league, dynamism in midfield, pace and width and very thin in areas like right back the wings and reliant on one or two players for creativity and goals, has hamstrung our manager.I guess the recruitment is key but confidence in recruitment is low at the moment. Yes Steve Walsh made alot of mistakes but lets recognise Brands has as well, unfortunately the whole squad needs ripping up and starting again (Still!) even though it had the best part of half a billion spent on it.
Our recruitment is poor, is this why CA is looking at proven players?

Ancelotti is contracted for 5 years and has expressed a hope that he will be retained beyond that point. He is clearly here for the long haul.CA is only here a few years so he wants to achieve it's natural so he is going for "proven" but their age and injuries hit us in the back end of the season. So sick to death of people banging on about the away record. There were no home fans in the ground! Is this really difficult to understand? The moment that changes these spineless jellyfish will be back to their usual losses.I mean yes it was a very disappointing end to the season /and we had a terrible home record but let's not forget we got ten more points than last season, had a brilliant away record had some big wins and we were in the hunt for Europe till the last day, depends how you look at it really.
