Everton Summer transfers 2021

I think Brands is there to make sure our additions are right for the squad long term though.
Exactly right, the role of the DOF is to make sure that even if a manager leaves that the players all do not have to follow him out the door.

I think there will be a little leeway where a manager is allowed to bring in a couple of players that he may know and rely on to build the team around (Allan and JR) but generally it would be hoped that a new manager would be able to work with the majority of an existing squad, I think there is little doubt that Godfrey and Doucoure would fit that bill.

I also think the age profile of the players signed last season was higher than expected because Carlo wanted Allan and JR.
I think that most of any signings we make this summer will be in the 22-26 range.

Why have a Director of Football ? Either the DoF is in charge of transfer strategy, or they're just a glorified negotiator. Ancelotti should tell Brands what positions he wants filled, and what qualities he's looking for, then leave the rest to Brands. Ancelotti should have right of veto over any incoming transfer, but it shouldn't be up to him to propose names to bring in.
It should be a team effort, not just imposing players onto a manager that doesn’t want them.

Athletic reckons Sterling, Jesus, Laporte, and even possibly Mahrez and Bernardo are unhappy and will look to leave/be moved on.

Hard to see where most of them will go given the wages they’re on, fee they’d command, and the state most big clubs are in financially. That said I still don’t see any of them being remotely interested in playing for us.

Why would mahrez be unhappy.
Starts every big game.

Everyone of those players knows how bad we are. They had a good look at us last game of the season and no player in his prime years and right mind would leave the likes of City for us.

Its hard to see what players of any calibre would want to come to us. Last season we finished 8th and with CA in charge it would have been easy to imagine we could kick on. Then signing James, Allan and Doucoure BUT another season on we have no European football, not even the Intertoto substitute and finished 2 places lower than the previous season playing turgid football. I know everyone will say we finished 10 points better off but as a top player looking at the league do you think they will research previous points totals, or just look at the teams finishing above us?

My point is at what point does just signing for CA end? What sort of players can we realistically attract? Or even afford? IF we cant attract or afford top players is there any point in having a top coach like CA.

I think last seasons performances/results will have damaged our reputation when it seemed like we was on the up. I did say it was a massive mistake not to back CA in the market in January and like clockwork the end of season crash happened.

I think the long and short of it is that we need to move ALOT of players on, I just cant see anyone wanting them as they are pure crap, the resell value for the outlay is minimal, and we have players happy to see out their contracts.

That will hinder any buys which will mean as usual we will doing all our business at the tail end of the window with most of this squad starting next season. As much as alot on here will protest we are in a sell to buy scenario....... The glass ceiling has been hit and it would be a mercurial effort by MB and CA to turn this squad in to European challengers next season where you expect the top 6 and Leicester to fill all the European places whilst you`d imagine West Ham and Leeds will improve again. We have actually fallen behind more clubs in one season. EVERTON THAT!

Not surprising considering the crap pep keeps on pulling in the champions league.

Three seasons on the bounce now hes tired to be a smart ass and in doing so has cost them.

His need to saciate his ego by proving hes this tatical genius has cost them two-three champions leagues in the past 3 years.

He's the best manager in the world in the league but in the champions league he just makes mental decisions that never come off.

Having said that there is still no way any of those players would touch us with the dirty end of a rag man's trumpet.
