Everton Summer transfers 2021

Nunes looks promising in the clips, but I'm not sure if he's the answer to our midfield problems. Our balance is horrible and he looks like a classic number 8 which is probably the one position in a midfield three that we have ok options in with Allan and Doucoure. We have really poor options for the anchor role and if James stays I think we will probably use him off the right moving forward which means we will definitely need another attacking midfielder.

He's definitely a good profile and I would be content if he joined but I would be concerned that we haven't learned our lesson from the past few years that we never seem to address the balance of our midfield and sign too many players who do the same thing and leave gaping holes elsewhere.
If Nuno joins ( I really hope that he doesn't ) I can forsee him signing Neves to play in the anchor role in midfield.
Apprechiating that Neves is slow and isn't dynamic he is technically very good and mre importantly knows exactly how Santo wants the team to play and could be his onfield lieutenant.
He could dictate the pace of the game and organise , in short a poor man's Pirlo.
It wasn't too long ago that he was talked in terms of being City's replacement for Fernandinho.
It would allow Allan , Doucoure and Nunes to get forward more.
Added to to this he is reportedly available and Wolves are looking to sell.
If Santo is our new manager it makes sense.

Finally though, some excitement on the transfer window to steer our concerns in the right direction.

Ultimately, it’s all we wanted. At least these links suggest we’re aware that we’re desperate for flair and pace and whether we sign them or not, at least we’re looking.

For what it’s worth, I want them all. Going. Hungry, exciting, below £45m not Icelandic, not Iwobi… sounds great.

Seeing those Schick goals yesterday just shows that there are players out there, he went for what, £22m last year?
Do we actually have a scouting network? Or is that GOT’s job?

Ive been keen on Neves since he was at Porto.

He'd be great as the anchor provided we had pace/athleticism around and in front of him.

Clever, tactically astute maestro.

Think the rumour was he was available for £35mil. Thats a good price really for someone whose just turned 24.

There are a couple of weird things going on at the club from a scouting perspective. First of all, it appears that we believe any player under the age of 27 is gonna take 2 years to come good, and seem to be obsessed with chasing players “in their prime” (which means 27 or over) so they can make an immediate impact.

Secondly, we value Premier League experience a lot higher than we should. “Premier League proven” seems to just mean they’ve played in the Premier League, and this is seen as an attribute for some reason. Put these two strategies together and you end up with a deadly cocktail of ageing average players that you’ll never be able to sell on, ergo our squad.

“Hmm I’m not sure on this Christian Ronaldo kid from Portugal, no way he’ll adapt from a farmers league. Let’s get Kieron Dyer instead”

I mean we joke, but that’s actually what we would’ve done.
When we were supposedly looking at Hazard you know full well we saw this 20 yearold absolutely tearing up trees in the French league and when push came to shove went “nah let’s re-sign Pienaar I’m sure he’s not past it”.

Disclaimer: I have no idea if the years on those match up but they feel about right

My feeling is that Wolves are trying to push people out of the door and that perhaps the Chinese investors are slowing up a bit (which is a consistent pattern across the football/investment spectrum). There's a few whispers and it may be partially why Nuno agreed to go. It may also be why Mendes was so keen to get 2 of his men at 2 different clubs. Wolves would still hold a function then, even if they didn't spend hugely but as more of an end destination for certain players.
