Everton Summer transfers 2021

I think the worry is that any manager coming in - especially one that will consider himself above Brands - will have the wrong idea about some of our players.

Mainly that Gylfi is a play making number 10, Coleman is undroppable, Gomes is a midfielder that dictates a game and Delph is an important and influential old head.

Brands signed all three of Iwobi, Gomes and Delph. If hes unable to move them on then fingers should be pointed at him.

The challenge Benitez has isnt "how to get the best" of those players. Its how to rebuild a midfield with only Allan, Doucoure and Davies the only players who are capable of being in a top 6 squad.

Major questions should be asked of Brands if he cant sell the players he himself brought to the club only a short time ago.

In addition to that, there are only the following players who dont have frequent injuries and could be considered top 6 squad quality:

Pickford
Digne
Godfrey
Doucoure
Richarlison
DCL

For a club going for such a bizarre managerial appointment there needs to be a huge turnaround of players.

At the end of June now and not a single player has been sold. The players we should be selling arent at the euros and the teams were selling to arent now focused on players at the euros.

I hope finally we have somewhat of a fire sale.

If theres no rebuild then what was the point of hiring Benitez?

In all fairness I dont really think you can use those signings as a stick to beat brands with.

Gomes was very good for us in his first season and everyone was loosing their minds when they thought he was going to West ham and we all thought that €20m was cheap for him. Then he got his ankle snapped in half and hes never been the same player since.

Delph seemed like a no brainer at the time. 8m for a good pro, who was a leader in the dressing room of the best team in the league and can play multiple positions. No one could of known that as soon as the going got tough under silva he'd just declare himself injured for the rest of his contract.

Iwobi is the mad one isnt he. 27m for a player nobody wanted. If wed of tried to get him 3 days earlier we probably would of gotten him for under 20m. I just think its very strange that we go from Moshiri chasing zaha all summer to all of a sudden going after a player from Moshiri and usmanovs old team.

Out of those 3 I think you can only blame brands for the Iwobi (but even that seems a bit iffy to me) for being bad.

What worries me is brands seems really unlucky in the transfermarket. Or maybe its just us as a club and the everton curse has gotten to brands now as well.

Not "everyone" wanted Gomes.

Delph didnt "seem like a no brainer at the time".

Like you say, Iwobi is mind blowing...its not even £27mil only...its with clauses taking it up to £34-35mil.

Thats an incredibly poor piece of business...beggars belief.

Hes the DOF...hes signed the 3 and he should sell them. If he fails this window then the knives should be out.

I envisage that one of Benitez's demands was that he either had control or at the very least the final say on all transfers.

It's been a major issue with him in the past.

He will say to Brands what positions he wants players for. Brands will go off and compile a list. Rafael will then say yes or no to the players. That's how it works.

Obviously Rafael will already have some players in mind.

Yes, I'm sure the Kopites will have already made him aware of the dross they are trying to move on from their squad at above the market price.

I reckon the delay was them all thrashing this stuff out, they must be on the same wave length.... I hope

I don’t like or want Benitez in the slightest but he has a reputation of paying very close attention to detail so I’m sure there is no way he’s not watching every minute of last season and coming into this with a very good idea of what we have, even if he doesn’t care for Brands’ or anyone else opinion

If they are performance related clauses I think we can safely say he cost £27m!
