Everton Summer transfers 2021

Curious to see what kind of players Benitez targets in the transfer window. We don't really have the wide players for his preferred system (4231 with a deeper 3 than most). I wonder how he'll view Richarlison's role in that system, assuming he stays. I wonder if Benitez would prefer him in the role behind the striker (which typically goes to a more linking player) or wide left (Rich would do well defensively but it brings him too far from goal.) Maybe it will be moot and he'll use a different system, but we certainly need wingers either way. He also has had a tendency to stick central players out wide (Sissoko at Newcastle being one example) which is one of my pet peeves as a football fan. If he plays Gylfi wide right I'm done...

Has he ever played actual wingers though?

Not sure i remember any...

I just remember him playing mostly 4231 with the two wide players in the 3 pushed wider than usual since it reverts to a 451 defensively, but with a tendency to put players not suited for the role. So non wingers in a wide midfield position if that makes sense. But I could be remembering things wrong.

Yeah makes sense...players like centre forward Kuyt or a centre mid even out wide.

Dont remember any wingers who were 'successful' for him for the RS.

Newcastle were hard to watch...

Matt Richie and Jacob Murphy, welcome to Everton..

Just joking (hopefully) but I do genuinely think he’ll try and sign Sean Longstaff.

He was being raved about wasnt he? Then his brother came in when he was injured and got a motm award.

I actually think Benitez needs to bring in one or two marquee signings...just to get the fans to focus on something positive.

If theres really big money there then i wouldnt be shocked to see us move for someone like Declan Rice. Kind of fits the Gareth Barry type he wanted at the RS + England player + big signing + we need a DM.

Just a total guess....if he signs players like Nunes £17mil and Dumfries £13mil then I think were going to be in a rebuilding phase rather than a big push.

First, Bellingham and now Declan Rice.

Jesus dude how of of touch are you. Neither are signing for us. Their next clubs will be established CL contenders.

We've not got a chance of signing Rice. He'll be set on a money spinning move to his boyhood club Chelsea first and foremost. If not them, another Champions League club at the very least.

I think if there was serious money to spend then all of the Benitez stories would have been accompanied with a bit about how we were going to give him an enormous warchest and we felt he was better suited to dealing with the stars we were going to sign than a younger, less experienced manager would be etc. It would have been an easy way to control the narrative and get people focusing on the positive rather than the negative. The fact that hasn't happened makes me think there won't be much money to spend (in the grand scheme of things I mean, not saying we're penniless).

Did you not understand the context of my post?

IF BENITEZ WANTS TO GET THE FANS ONBOARD HE WILL NEED TO BRING IN ONE OR TWO MARQUEE SIGNINGS.

Did i say 'realistic' ? No...

A Marquee signing is traditionally unrealistic by nature...

I wouldnt go for Rice anyway...better players out there for half the price or less...

He reminds me of the overrated oaf in our defence...gormless.

There havent really been any stories or suchlike have there...its all been just boring drawn out nothingness.

The thing is...if there wasnt money to spend then why not just hire a manager who wouldnt cause such outrage. Benitez has never done anything without spending huge sums.

Doubt we can get any starters in the England squad - even the bench. We need to buy them pre-England like Pickford and DCL.

Ie. more Godfreys please.

Aarons seemed to be the one...right profile for us.

Instead seems like were after the cut price option in Dumfries.
