Everton Summer transfers 2021

He brought in two of them and "moulded the three into a world class midfield".

Its not only about having top players but also partnerships.

He did want to sell Alonso for Barry though lol what a muppet.

At this rate Arsenal are going to be doing more exciting business than us.

Brands is becoming a huge let down.
Ok but a partnership of Gomes replacing an injured Allan, Doucoure and whoever else is going to fall a bit short still.

It isn't just Arsenal doing more exciting business (although I kind of disagree that they have any clue what they're doing) but Leicester and Villa too who do seem to have a plan and look to sign players to fit it.

The profiles of Tavares and Lokonga is what we should be after. Theyre building a nucleus of young players.

Brands has made some shocking purchases. The fact is that this summer he has to sell some of the dross hes bought.

Iwobi, Gomes, Delph would be close to £60mil hes wasted.

We can go into the season with Davies, Allan and Doucoure as long as we sign two players to start.

Benitez will surely want a defensive midfielder...Brands needs to make some sales for once to generate some funds.

The thing for me is Iwobi, Gomes and Delph are all players who with a competent manager (and in the case of Delph some level of health) could be useful pieces of the team. They're not going to be our best players but until we can sort out finding better than them we could get something from them. Benitez more than likely will not be the one to fix this.

Frankly we aren't going to sign two midfielders to start instead of those three. Best case is we get a proper partner for Allan and go like that. But then we've got the issue of needing a RB if we're using James as a RW, a RW if we're using James as a #10 (and still a RB tbh) and someone to play when James is in one of his injured spells. So that is like 5 players. Which is why getting something out of the guys we have is so important. And hence why finding a manager who can do that matters.

Iwobi, Gomes and Delph are absolute donkeys.

It doesn't matter, we have them and good management is getting something out of them. Yes I want us to do better in the future so we don't have bad signings that go like this but that's a different problem. Short term doing the best we can is probably going to involve at least one or two of those three being a useful piece of what we're doing. That's just the reality of where we are.

Hopefully Brands is fully in charge of transfers now. It feels like he wasn't in complete control of picking a manager so who can really say who is running things?
I envisage that one of Benitez's demands was that he either had control or at the very least the final say on all transfers.

It's been a major issue with him in the past.

Unfortunately I think you are right.

They are so bad that we are stuck with them.

I suppose it is possible that you might get someone to take Iwobi because he is still young and some decent performances for Arsenal are relatively fresh in the mind , but you are still going to have to take a hit on the fee - which is a problem for FFP.

I envisage that you're right , Benitez will just have to try to get something out of them.

Did I miss something ?

When did Allan get injured ?

Yes , I know that he was injured a lot last season but thought he finished the season relatively fit.

Mind you I've watched a lot of Euro matches and drunk a lot of wine since then !

BTW I wouldn't be suprised to see him move on anyway.

Who else will go ( that we would like to keep ) ?

James - probably
Richarlison - big maybe
Digne - probably not now he's injured.

I could cetainly see 2 out of those 4 ( including Allan) going.

Surely even Brands can move on at least 2/3 of the the others - JJK and perhaps one of the centre backs and Iwobi ( maybe ).

I can see what a churn of players this summer.

5/6 out and 4 in?

If we're sending 5/6 out and three of them are from the group of Allan, Digne, Richarlison and James we're in real trouble. That would be a disaster.

Allan had two muscle strains and I'm just assuming that past 30 years of age those aren't going away. He only played 24 league games last year. That's only one more than James. Even with the injuries those guys can actually play football so we should keep them, but you also have to factor in the injuries when you're trying to plan out how to build the squad.

Honestly it is all messy.

No just to clarify ( I've edited it because it was probably badly written , but in my defence it is 6.15 am here and we did beat Germany last night ) .... I think that 2 of the "decent player group" might agitate for moves and be sold.

I think we've got to try hard to not give in. We just don't really have any choice unless we're going to recruit well all of a sudden. Hell will freeze over first I reckon.

Yeah I think you're right.

I forgot Bernard - which is very easy to do - surely he will be off.

Sadly I just can't see James staying.

I'd incentivise Siggurdsson to go to the Middle East.

JJK to Burnley or Norwich if they cash in on Aarons.

That's 4 outs that should be doable.

Benitez , who I detest , will want to bring in his own players.

I agree with Zat that a DM will be a priority for him. RB and RM as well.

I think we will see powerful , athletic ,but not necessarily young players come in.

Who knows - happily unlike theoneandonly I don't have an encyclopaedic knowledge of Binitez's career and signings other that to know that he plays turgid defensive football

This is why we need an empowered DOF though. We can't have a manager change necessitating tearing down and building up. We need to be able to just start building again.

The holes in the squad are the holes in the squad. I imagine any manager would look to get a RB, DM and RW in.

Brands signed all three of Iwobi, Gomes and Delph. If hes unable to move them on then fingers should be pointed at him.

The challenge Benitez has isnt "how to get the best" of those players. Its how to rebuild a midfield with only Allan, Doucoure and Davies the only players who are capable of being in a top 6 squad.

Major questions should be asked of Brands if he cant sell the players he himself brought to the club only a short time ago.

In addition to that, there are only the following players who dont have frequent injuries and could be considered top 6 squad quality:

Pickford
Digne
Godfrey
Doucoure
Richarlison
DCL

For a club going for such a bizarre managerial appointment there needs to be a huge turnaround of players.

At the end of June now and not a single player has been sold. The players we should be selling arent at the euros and the teams were selling to arent now focused on players at the euros.

I hope finally we have somewhat of a fire sale.

If theres no rebuild then what was the point of hiring Benitez?
