So let's get this straight.

The chairman of Everton is under pressure. There have been protests against his tenure, there's an AGM coming up and he's going to be asked difficult questions. People are going to claim that he's not put the club for sale, or if he has, the price is unreasonable and is preventing a sale.

Said chairman has therefore asked an associate to feign interest in buying the club, before going on record as saying he was put off by the price. And this is supposed to take the pressure off?

The mind boggles.

I think think something will happen soon, evidence is there.

1. Bills not well which I never wish on anyone so hope he gets better.

2. We seem to be tidying up the books.

3. We kept players like stones, mirralas, Coleman

4. A group believed to have interest has said there are more serious groups in the frame. Bill definetly wouldn't ask a friend to say there are others in the frame and something will be sorted in the next months, he would just say we tried to sell but it wasn't the right deal.

5. We're are in talks with LCC about stadium options and I believe bill and the board won't be able to fund such a project like previous years. But if the money is available from whatever source be it a grant, the club or a new owner it will happen.

I am in view that the club must be talks with both LCC and potential owners about stadium funding and buying of the club and something very exciting will be announced in the near future.

I've always been optimistic

This is my view also.

Despite the fact that Lerner initially sunk a net spend of around 70 million quid into Villa back in 2006-2008 when he first arrived and during his tenure they have still got a net spend of over 100m quid mate
I should have clarified that I meant was the big money yearly that the United ,City and Chelsea's of this world spend
Showing my age when I think 100 million is big money.
You just know Falcondrone are the ones we are talking to.

He bought players to sell. Martin O'Neill built a good team there at the time and Lerner sold Young, Milner, Barry and Downing I think.
Some may say its no different to now, but at least the stones saga shows there is some fight left in us, mainly down to the tv money - we don't need to sell to buy.

Would a takeover even push us to the next level? The teams already established above us have such a head start that beating them to a top 4 spot isn't necessarily going to be a regular thing, which it would have to be for us to really push on.
A takeover is inevitable at some point but I'm sceptical it would necessarily take us much higher. Even if we got a mega rich owner with money to burn, aren't there rules about how much they can sink into improving the squad?

As someone who LIVES on that road, it's absolute chaos every day at rush hour, and is utterly gridlocked when the Echo kicks out.

Yes it's better (slightly) than when it opened, but it's still a nightmare - and we're now nearly EIGHT years since it opened!

I'm not saying that it would have been completely unworkable (though more infrastructure than what's there now would have been needed) but WHP would be no more difficult than KD would have been

Well just imagine WHP with a weekday rush hours worth of people with one rail station and less places to park.

it most likely would atleast give us possibility to tke that step. This board cant do that eventhough they actually arent as bad as haters like to advertise.

If Liverpool were in this situation, the Echo would run a front page headline of "LOWER THE PRICE".

For us, we get an article which glosses over the fact that the Americans said the price wasn't right, and instead focus on them saying "the timing wasn't right".

Bit of respect is called for there ;) , its the clubs business partner you are slagging.

Yeah I completely agree the current ownership situation has left us in a bit of a stalemate and that a step forward is needed.

I just feel it could potentially be a false dawn in terms of progression up the table. However it may well just secure the clubs future stability, which even on its own would be a welcome thing.

Would quite fancy a progression of the club. Get that sorted, and the rest should follow.

I'd love it too mate. I just guess being one of the generation who don't remember the glory days and having been let down so often before I'm naturally a bit sceptical by this point.
Of course I hope to be proven wrong. If a takeover led to just a league cup I'd be made up to be honest.

I think everyone's a bit gun shy when it comes to declaring something might be happening in regards to takeovers. However...

... People who have covered Everton for 30+ years in the local/national media (Phil McNulty of BBC Sport) are adamant that the rumours never came from the club and came from outside sources. It really does appear this is absolutely nothing at all to do with the upcoming AGM and is independent of that.

Me too. Like everyone else, I havnt a clue if anything if anything is happening, but if you step back, and apply some logic/business sense to the situation, I would be more surprised if something didnt happen, or at least got pretty close.

Senior shareholder is not getting any younger. None of the other major shareholders seem to give that much of a toss about the club, and an incoming owner(s) should know exactly what is needed. Growing revenues, (Merica being, to me, the obvious market), improving brand awareness, (ugh, but that is football now, again Merica/working mans club etc etc), and the directors to deliver.

A young squad, decent manager, are in place.

Just the ground, and whatever happens there, LCC will have to be involved.

Like I say, just my musings. Compare that to Villa trying to be sold. Like why would you buy Villa? Relegation a real threat, team isnt very good, (major players sold), pretty standard manager.

......despite welcoming change I think it's only natural to feel nervous about the prospect of new owners. We clearly need investment to take us to the next level but the game is littered with failed takeovers. Sometimes it's better the devil you know but I trust the current board will ensure any buyer has the right intentions. If it happens the transition has to be effective.

A lot of sense there, does look like an opportune time for anyone who was interested in buying an established top half premier league side to take the plunge.

The only advantage Villa have is the ground really, everything else is on our side.
