Everton Transfer Thread 2016

The absolute last thing we need, imo, is a so called "statement signing".

Our core squad, plus the potential we all saw in the last game, is not bad. It has been mucked about with, but that is easy to fix. Christ, Unsworth did in a week. Norwich notwithstanding, granted.

Now dont ask me who we should sign in the areas that we are light, cos I do not have a clue. But we certainly dont need, or want, a Zlat or a Rooney, for examples, to win the willy contest.
I'd take Rooney, he's still boss and he'd enjoy playing for us. Don't want another Eto'o signing though.

Yeh but you're proving my point for me: Terry/Cahill and Morgan/Huth are a partnership of slow proper defenders (albeit Terry is a good passer) and I said earlier Dann thrives in these partnerships like with Delaney. Sticking him next to a Stones or a Mori is a completely different prospect. Leicester were so good last season because their back 4 were all defenders and defended as a priority whereas only Jags does that in our team.

I think your picking me up wrong mate, I said Dann would be a good acquisition because Stones, Mori, would need an anchor. We struggled without Jags and Dann again is depth in that regard. Organisation, steeliness and expierence. I also state Jags can play with Dann to give the deep living defensive partnership ala Leicester and Chelsea. You said we need an athletic defender, I think we have enough athletic flair "statement signing" defenders, last thing we need.

I'm totally lost on the points your making mate, no offence.

And you've completely misinterpreted the point I was making. I said that in today's games you can't have a Dann and a Stones together; especially not the way we play. I said I agree we need a more physical defender but he needs to be both physical and athletic.

Just picture watching Everton on TV, we have the ball at the keeper, passes to Dann, passes to Stones, bother full-backs bomb forward together (since they always do), Stones strides out a bit and gets tackled. Now two scenarios are possible:

1. Dann has pushed up with Stones to short the gap between them but now there's a big hole behind him to knock the ball into and run past him (he is very slow).
2. Dann stays back now there's a huge gap between him and the midfield, the full-backs & Stones. The opposition can now pour forward as getting caught off-side isn't going to happen.

Neither scenario ends well for us without a good save or last ditch tackle. I'm purely talking about if Dann came this summer; I have no idea how the new manager will have us play. If he can teach Stones when to stay back then sure it might work but no saying he can. To me it's just a partnership of styles that don't work. It works currently with Jagielka because he's quicker than people think.

Probably gonna be linked with half the Southampton team now. I reckon Steve Davis would do well in our midfield. Always rated him, he would be a good addition to our squad.

Doubt SOTON will play ball with that one. Unless we pay stupid money ......... like £5m to release a manager with one year on his contract

That's massively unrealistic mate, when is the he last time you saw both full backs Stones basically 75% of the efense "bomb forward. I know we're utterly gash at the back but Come on mate. I also imagine "the way we play" is going to have a massive Dutch loafer going through it very shortly.

What's the difference between Stones playing with Jags and Stones playing with Dann, I'm not even sure if Stones would be in my preferred defensive partnership if I'm honest.

You haven't seen us much this season then if you've not seen us caught with our defense up the field; why do you think we're so much worse without Barry playing? I just said no one knows how the new manager will have us playing.

Sorry mate, you just don't make sense to me, no offence, good chat and all!

Scott Dann is 29, he has played a few seasons in the Premier League and a few in the lower leagues. The highest a team with him in has ever finished is 10th.

If that is a £15m player who we should be looking at signing then a DOF is required as soon as possible.

Stop, we haven't even got a manager yet, we won't be signing anyone until we do.
