Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Vagner Love
I remember when The Telegraph reported us as having signed him (or at the very least that it is about to happen/be confirmed). Have never trusted a newspaper since.

<tries to find old report>

Edit, it was The Guardian. So much wrong with this article:

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2008/aug/11/everton.manchestercity

Wagner Love 'close to signing' and deal to be 'completed before Saturday'; Stefan M'Bia deal to be 'concluded for about 6m', and Alan Smith 'close to joining' us too.

Because his distribution is very good and he is good with the ball at his feet and at least if he does make a mistake like we know he is prone too from time to time it won't always result in a goal

Mccarthy out

Witsel in
Yes please.

15m for McCarthy is reasonable. 25m for Witsel. No chance they are getting anywhere close to 40m with one year left on his contract.

Barry's final year, so we'd have Witsel, Barry and Besic for battling it out, then next summer go out for another top central midfielder.

Take that all day long.

William carvalho, looks a player, arsenal are after him for 23m only early 20's looks a great replacement for Barry.

He looks an absolute beast and would be a fantastic player. Apparently they are looking for in excess of 35 million.

Also Wanyama is going to Spurs for 11 million. That looks a smart signing.

But Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay are all under threat.

France midfielder Schneiderlin, signed from Southampton last summer, could be squeezed out if Matic arrives at his position — new Everton boss Ronald Koeman is watching developments closely after taking over at Goodison Park.

Schneiderlin could be reunited with his old Southampton boss Koeman at Everton

He'd happily snap up Schneiderlin, who played for him at Saints, if Mourinho makes him available - although Everton would have to stump up the £25m United paid Southampton a year ago.

£15m for McCarthy?

We paid £13m from a relegated side 3yrs ago.

Have you seen what's happened to transfer fees since then?

Has anyone mentioned Geronimo Rulli @ Sociedad?
Watched him plenty of times and think he's decent and surely wouldn't cost loads to prise away?

Yep, used him in a list of potential Howard replacements when it was announced he was leaving:

Real Sociedad’s Argentine goalkeeper is only 23 but has earned a number of rave reviews, including those for a performance in a 1-0 win over footballing giants, Barcelona. At 23, Rulli has the potential to be anybody's next number one for at least the next 10 years, something Everton require.

Rulli is well known to players of video games like FIFA and Football Manager but is yet to put that high potential into real life performances. He has shown moments of weakness, conceding a number of soft goals but that has not stopped the youngster.

This season he has already kept 11 clean sheets, 10 in the La Liga and a single clean sheet in the Copa Del Rey.

Taking part in a number of press conferences for Real Sociedad, Rulli pulls no punches and does not attempt to gloss over poor performances, something that is much needed at Everton.

He has already been linked with Manchester City and Liverpool in the past few months and the Blues may have to act fast to get their man.

Despite everything I said about values elsewhere, what if Rom and Stones stay and we chose to go with proven in league players to improve right the heck now. Could we get the likes of:
Sigurrdson - 20m
Schneiderlin - 25m
Forster - 25m
Long - 15m

And then sell some of Kone/Niasse if even for a combined 5 to 10m. That leaves 20-25m of the 100m (plus sales) to spend for a left winger. Not sure who that might be.....

Kenny behind Seamus and Galloway/Pennington behind Stones/Jags/Mori.....

Is this a top 4 team? No. BUT assuming Koeman can tighten up the defense, which I think he can - I believe it would be a team that gets us back to Europe in very short order. Then from there to top four the following year.

FM/FIFA silliness I know, but it is fun to dream, no? Especially now that we have a snowballs chance of doing something (not this to be sure, but something....)
