If it came to Witsel, Strootman or Schneiderlin who would people prefer?

Mate mata is one of the best playmakers in the game still, he is no slower now than when he first arrived at Chelsea either, speed has never been something he relies upon, what he would give us is someone who can actually pick apart a team sitting deep - a major problem with him at United is that they either stuck him out wide where he is less effective than centrally or they sat deep themselves meaning his lack of pace hurt him badly when playing wide.

As for Barkley - IF Mata signed and played centrally then Barkleys role would no longer be the bloke expected to feed balls into Rom would it?, he'd actually be freed up to go past Mata and arrive late in the box, one thing for certain though - Mata in a team would not slow things down

He is a great player, I am just not sure that paying what we will probably have to get him would be sensible when we could spend similar money getting players in who could run onto through balls from Barkley. If United are desperate to get rid and we can get him cheaply, then fine.

Personally, if we are talking about daft money I would like us to have a go at signing the Ox - him on the left, Rom up front and Deulofeu on the right would be fantastic.

I'd go for Strootman if not for his injury record.

As it is I think Witsel would be the better option, reckon he'd adapt really well to English football too.

Let's just go out and buy both.

Wouldn't be too unhappy with Schneiderlin either mind.

Strootman mate - but that injury record gives me shivers so if we can only get one cm in this summer would go for Witsel, scheneiderlein is much better IMO as a pure defensive mid - witsel the better all rounder, and strootman is just a beast

Strootman was talked about just as pogba is now...would be a major coup to get him and if most of it was appearance based we would have huge upside.

If I recall right, Koeman often played with one at home and two away with Southampton. Works for me.

Schneiderlin, can run for days as a true box to box. Strootman on pedigree but no thanks with that injury record. We already have one gibson

Schneiderlin is a not a typical box to box midfielder he is a true DM,sits infront of a back 4 and breaks play up and passes short.

Which makes complete sense. Not all the time like Martinez played. It was absolute madness, 2 DM's, at home, against poor teams and we STILL conceded loads and looked shambolic defensively.

Think Besic would shine as the second DM next to a Schneiderlin/Strootman/Witsel when away next season. Got the defensive qualities and steel but with more freedom to scamper around and get up and down the pitch.

Most top teams midfields are filled with ball players, they can do the dirty too but the belief that you need 2 yard dogs who purely run round tackling is a myth

what about barry , besic, gibson, cleverley, Tarashaj mate?

Also Davies and dowell, you aren't basing that on one performance right? You have seen them several times throughout the academy?

This is what is confusing me about it a bit. I'd be surprised (and sad) if he was bought to take the central or right sided spots from Ross or Del respectively.

Mata did play on the left much earlier in his career but has I think come out and said recently that he wants to play centrally. I don't get it. Cracking player but no idea what the plan would be.

Mata for me is one of the best no 10's certainly in Europe. His most productive and successful seasons have come playing this role. Its criminal the way he has been played at both Utd and at Chelsea under Jose.

Personally i see Ross at no 8 and Mata at no 10. I would rather not sign Mata then see him shifted out wide.
