....I'm a few months off 60 and I reckon I have seen 3 world class players for Everton since 1963. There are a few like Kanchelskis who are on the fringe and perhaps Lineker but he was only here for one season. World Class is a term too frequently given to a player. My definition is that they could walk into any team on the planet.
Lukaku is not world class, we do not have any world class players.
Everton has been around for well over 100 years.
Our football club's history and future is not going to be defined by the transfer timings in a single transfer window at the very beginning of a whole new structure.
This is a long term project, I couldn't care less if we sign players now or deadline day, because Moshiri is in this for the long haul.

pretty sure the only players we brought in before the start of the season that year were Kone, Alcaraz, Joel and then Del on loan...

I'd argue lineker was world class, top striker in his career.
Absolutely right sir, the superlative led world we now seem to live in, has a lot to answer for. I'm 55 (tomorrow, money in cards welcome), I'd be pushed to say three tbh, Bally obviously, who left just after I started watching, and I'd probably put Rooney in there, but that's about it. Plenty of top class players though.
Think everyone can agree Lukaku isn't though. World class should be reserved for a player that would automatically have a place in any team of the world. With Lewandowski, Benzema, Higuain etc. being better than him he's definitely not world class.

He has everything to be world class. the perfect striker in the making in my eyes, he just needs the right coach to get him there.
....I think it's useful to define the phrase rather than attach it so loosely. Then a discussion can be had. There's no right or wrong but I agree with you regarding Lineker which is why he isn't in my very select group of Evertonians - Ray Wilson; Alan Ball and Neville Southall.
