and what happens when for arguments sake Gibson and Besic injured again (not out of the question), we have an injury and then it turns out Barrys legs have gone? considering Distin at a similar age was fine in may, finished by august.

Do succesful teams actually rely on these players? Terry is being relegated to a bit part role this season, untied move their players on and any that have sustained themselves have been far beyond the 'good' area. Barry has no pace, if he loses any more of that lack of pace then he will be exposed so much and leave gaping holes in the middle.

That is the point, if we are signing internationals to play first choice then still having a player who may or may not be able to offer something is just a gamble. Can we really afford to gamble like that?

I'm not saying we shouldn't get more midfielders in mate. I'm saying that there's no really reason to sell Barry at this point.

He's still one of our better midfielders and is perfectly capable of playing the holding/anchor role in a 4-3-3. He has more of an impact going forward than either Gibson or Besic as well...

What a disaster this has turned out to out.

Monchi -> Walsh
Mata -> Brady
Witsel -> Gueye
Carvalho -> Let's just go without

But again why take that gamble? If we are signing 30 million pound midfielders then why gamble? Plus he is getting paid far too much to be a squad player in all honesty. Could those wages be used elsewhere? Especially when we can replace him in the squad with a cheap fella like that Gueye who will still be the same role but for a lot less?

That is the point about Barry, he is in the same position as Distin was for us, we gambled one season too many and then look at the result. Personally i don;t want us to gamble, i want us to make sure we are covered by the start of the season.

Just been reading a little piece on Sky about Leicester's new signings the last of Walsh's signings and there stats all looks a bit "Moneyball" to me.
Obviously worked last season be interesting to see what happens with Leicester this season and how our signings and season pan out.

You can't just chuck a player out because his legs "may have gone" over the summer break. Especially on the back of a season where was easily our best player.

Ignore the voices in your head for a bit mate !

It hasn't turned out to be anything - because it is not over yet !

There are still weeks to go before the transfer window closes so there is no way you can deliver a definitive judgement until then.

It's not a gamble at all? He rarely has injuries. It's not like Distin who had pace either - Barry has never had it so won't lose it!

And we will be covered. There'd be nothing wrong with Barry as part of that cover throughout the season. Nothing wrong at all.

then what? find out when he is on the pitch some september and we are being over ran because of it?

It is called future planning, it is preparing for the season. How many clubs let older players go and replace them younger? We have just released 3 of them despite the argument being they could still 'do a job' in the squad.

Yes Barry was half decent last year, but so was distin the season before we got rid. And like magic he suddenly went from highly mobile and fit to struggling to keep up with the play. then we were stuck because we had gambled on him still being the same player he was only a few months earlier.

I'm not just pulling this out of thin air, we literally just had a player who went through the exact same thing.
