Everton Transfer Thread 2016

I'm more focused on the opening game now and looking forward to it.

As much as there is a general air of anxiety amongst some (myself included) signings will happen in their own time. It is inconceivable as I see it that we will head into September without several new signings. I cannot see anyone at the club from Moshiri downwards accepting that scenario, and at the very least, I am confident that it is not through lack of effort that signings have not materialised so far.

Our strategy seems to be hedged on all of Witsel / Carvalho / Koulibaly / Mata having signed for us by then, with perhaps 1-2 further additions at some point in between, with Walsh's input to come into play on those.

It would be quite some coup to pull off the "Big 4" targets, and would represent complete vindication of the clubs apparent transfer policy for this window.

Realistically, some may not happen. In that scenario, we will probably have to settle for what we can get and re-assess in January, or more realistically for "marquee" signings, next summer.

The one thing I'm getting from the "new" Everton more than anything else over the past few months, is that they will not compromise on targets. Ultimately, whilst that inevitably leads to frustration in the short-term, prudence and careful planning will lead long-term rewards.

Does typing the same response to my comments make you feel any better?

If we start making considerable movement I won't have anything to complain about.

Although I think we need to recruit new players as the right players will always improve the team, I also think the main problem last season was the system not the players, especially the defensive system. Going forward for the majority was pretty good to watch although we would take our foot of the gas and play needless Back and sideways passes when ahead. The problem was we didn't press the ball and we had a complete lack of defensive organisation. No one knew their role and where to position themselves, when being attacked in different ways, if that makes sense. I think this will be much better next season so I wouldn't be over concerned about rushing players in, although we obviously need to add.

A bit of a long post, I just couldn't stop typing.

I agree with that, so also think we need a big increase of quality.

Well actually it depends, do we want to finish top half? Top 8? Top 6? Top 4? Do we want to win the thing?

Depends on what the ambition of the club and fan base actually is.

So you think it is all OK? No need to feel frustrated by our inactivity?

Fair enough, most fans I know are pissed off with it, feels a bit same old story to most after so much promise and excitement going into the summer.

Yes we may get some players in soon but every day we don't we are losing pace with most of our rivals who have either strengthened or have kept the same manager as last season so do not need to make wholesale changes to adapt to the new managers style of play.

2 weeks is not long enough to do this properly in my opinion. Conte and Jose both filled most of their problem areas fairly quickly, we got a reserve keeper.

You said the squad are off away for a week to Germany (which they aren't, it's three days), and like it's a bad thing (bare in mind that our opponents for the first game of the season are still in Australia...)

And actually, if you look there's huge differences between Conte and Jose and Koeman.

For one, both Conte and Jose new they were getting the jobs months in advance, and are at clubs who already have the power to attract massive names, and even so, Conte has expressed his frustration at how long deals have taken and how he thought he'd have more players in (they've signed Kante and Batshuayi and require a massive re-build in all truth).

Who are you actually classing as our 'rivals' btw. Because at the moment our rivals are probably Liverpool (spent loads on players for the same two positions again - no 'star' names either), Stoke (signed Allen), Southampton (sold their two best players), Leicester (sold one of their best players, will struggle to cope with CL though I wish them luck) and West Ham (signed two wingers with bad attitudes and big egos on a free and a loan)...

Yeh, we're really getting left behind...

We have a year to sort that though, right? Shouldn't stop us paying better wages now.
Edit: gave more ammo to bedwetters Utd haven't I?

As far as I'm aware it runs with the calendar year(?) not financial. It doesn't change the fact that it's the best way to get our revenue up in the short term.

That being said I think it's clear we haven't actively looked to sell Stones, merely agreed that, since he wants to leave, that if City match our valuation he can go.
