Not sure I agree with that.

Some of the players brought in were palpably awful before they arrived- McCarthy seemed to be rated on one youtube video of him passing it sideways with slightly more urgency than he does now vs United - and I would include Kone, McGeady, Cleverley in that group of miscreants. I would imagine all four will be moved on within two years and none of them become integral to the side or squad when the season starts. Robles will be third choice for as long as he wants to stay but he's done too.

Many of the others are top players brought low by significant mismanagement. baines and Coleman look to be improving again, Mirallas another. All three will be transformed by having two effective centre mids brought in. Maybe even Barry will get a new lease of life when McCarthy is shipped out.

We have core which could be built on, but a lot of dead wood too hence my comment.

Independent saying we're after Draxler. Would be a flipping ridicuboss signing for our left hand side. Think we'd struggle to get him and he'd be insanely spenny butttt hard to think of many better fits.

Agree with this, think that saying we are weak everywhere is a bit of a over reaction.

We don't have half as much quality as we require in the centre of midfield, we all know that. Signing quality there has to be the number one priority, just a shame the preferred targets are taking so long to mull over.

Same. And to be honest, who would take him?!

Damnit, he's gone to Belgium.

The thing is, if you are going to facilitate or allow for the peaks and troughs of Ross Barkley's performances- understanding the upsides are incredible - you need two high class midfielders (or one world class one) playing deeper to do the tempo work. This all totally broke down on McCarthy during absolutely nothing. Can a player genuinely be considered "out of form" if he has been this bad for two full seasons and one international tournament?

There are excellent players in this Everton squad. Our supposed backup goalkeeper played in a world cup final didn't he? You've got a 1 in 2 striker up front and two of the best full backs in the league. There is real quality there. The core issue is that we carried a few manager favourites for far, far too long.
