Everton Transfer Thread 2016

@The Esk

A question thats just came to me regarding the STCC rules.

Say, for arguments sake we sell Lukaku AND Stones and then purchase players that only increase our wage bill by a small amount, do we carry that profit on to the next year? Or is that massive profit "wasted" in terms of STCC?

If my question makes sense.......

Very reasonable question. Next year we can spend what we spent on wages this year plus £7m + increase in revenues next year.

So yes effectively it is wasted and in fact made worse by the inflated revenue figure of this year which would include the profits from both sales. So selling Rom this year is not a good idea in any sense if we want to increase 2017/18 wages on 2016/17.

Selling Rom this year is the worst of all world's. The only positive is that it would permit us to sell Niasse at a loss this year but that's no consolation.

Not reaching 100m doesn't mean we didn't have it available. It is appearing more and more likely that we targeted players that would get us there, but they said thanks, but no thanks.
It doesn't represent proof but is strongly suggestive as Koeman's head is on the chopping block he'll push hard to spend most of what's there. Spending less than half the budget seems unlikely.

I'm calling BS on there ever being a war chest. I think Koeman was brought in with the club knowing we where losing Stones and Lukaku and needed a manage that can rebuild. Mahrez, Draxler, Wisel, Carvalho, Koulibaly haha c'mon!. The minute we got the Stones money we bid £30m for Bolasie, seriously... Bolasie. To think there was members saying lets bid £60m for Rodriguez hahaha.
OK

They'd be good signings but still lacks a ball playing cm and another decent striker, they're our biggest needs right now so in that sense it would be a poor window

while I definitely agree on the striker (tbh I was tossing up between GK/ST) I think the CM depends entirely on how RK wants to play it.

Do I think we need one? Yes.

That doesn't necessarily mean that Koeman sees it as of much a priority now as he did at the start of the window though... We can't be sure and since it's out of our control either way, I'm willing to wait and see how the window pans out as I have been all along.

I think people really were expecting a whole new squad and quick fix. I think we're going to see a gradual progression through the next few windows - hopefully starting with, like I said, another four to five in and a few of the deadwood players shifted

We could sell Naisee this year without any issue whatsoever mate, we arent going to be increasing wages by 46.5m quid so even letting him go on a free would still allow a increase of roughly 34m for the season, which we won't use up anyway either.

Agree on all points.

The onus is on Everton now to boost the wage bill significantly.

To use the Stones sale to the max. As otherwise it's wasted.

That means @MoutsGoat ....

Even if it isn't 8 this summer. It certainly will be by January 2017

As ever in a results business we are going to see a major amplification of the situation in the coming days.

We are not ready and that is the word from the managers mouth.

We won't use anything close to the permitted increase in wages allowed by the Stones sale, and you agreed that letting Lukaku go would mean we could sell Niasse at a loss? - why can't we do that anyway mate - be interested to hear why Niasse leaving on a free would severely impact us this season after Stones has been sold?

I think based on the evidence of who we've signed and who we are apparently targeting, at least for this season, it appears that we are looking to improve the squad for immediate returns in the table. I don't think we are in a position to be gambling on young unproven talent at this point in the hopes they come good from the jump. It would appear that we are probably willing to overpay for proven PL players that can hopefully bed in quickly and see us moving up the table this season.

Going forward that strategy could change, but for me this appears to be the strategy this summer.
I don't disagree with that and assuming there is money that would have been the right approach to take considering Rom and Ross will probably only give us one more season at most.

However since that isn't possible the choice now becomes 1. We sign experienced players who would improve us marginally but would unlikely get us Europe or 2. We sign top class very expensive youngsters who could hit the ground running like Martial and get us Europe or at the very least if we miss out on Europe and Rom goes we will still have improving top class youngsters.

I really don't see why we would sign experienced players who would struggle getting into another top 6 side. It's like the Cleverly Niasse, McGeady etc signings. They aren't going to move us on.

I think my main fear is that it looks to me like we simply won't spend the money and instead prefer to keep it for another window. I really don't see what that accomplishes.
