Everton Transfer Thread 2016

If that's the case maybe Martinez had the right approach buying kids. The only flaw in his plan was that he didn't have the money to do it properly. It's very rare you pick up a gem of a 20 year old now for 1m-3m. However if we were willing to pay 30m then that opens up the opportunity to buy potential top class players. e.g. Bazoer a 19 year old at Ajax may see us a good stepping stone and for the right price I'm sure he would be available.

I think based on the evidence of who we've signed and who we are apparently targeting, at least for this season, it appears that we are looking to improve the squad for immediate returns in the table. I don't think we are in a position to be gambling on young unproven talent at this point in the hopes they come good from the jump. It would appear that we are probably willing to overpay for proven PL players that can hopefully bed in quickly and see us moving up the table this season.

Going forward that strategy could change, but for me this appears to be the strategy this summer.

But you aren't answering the question. It's demonstrably the case that we had to wait until Stones was sold because it's too much of a coincidence that our signings have all started around now. If we have a lot of money why wait and play hard ball with City? Sometimes you have to lose a battle to win a war.

FFP trading offset against increased wages

£100 million war chest? RK says expect 3-4 more signings. Here's a possible spend using only linked players. All approximations.
Gueye + Stek: 8m
Williams: 12m
Bolassie: 25m
Koné: 20m
Bony: 20m
Rachid G: 8m
Total: 93m
Minus 50m for Stones
Net spend: 44m
This is a positive scenario in which we land all 4 targets. It would represent our biggest ever budget but is still less than half the hyped 100m. Of course a Mata or someone previously unlinked could enlarge it. Lu's sale could bring it to a minus figure and RK didn't sound convinced he's staying.
Overall it's looking pretty unlikely it's going to be anywhere near 100m net.

Would be a dream window then. But then he would be happy with CM?

Not as happy as if he picked up another one, but I do think he would be. I think he may drop Barkley into that role. The reality is you HAVE to have another CB, and a second striker, that means if you are only adding 4(speculation), and you do pick up Bolaise, you have to chose, CM or attacking mid, and Mata is too much class not to go after.

I think he saves some of the cash at his disposal, and uses it next window.

Not reaching 100m doesn't mean we didn't have it available. It is appearing more and more likely that we targeted players that would get us there, but they said thanks, but no thanks.

I actually wonder if the Kone deal is just a rumour. Koeman mentioned keeping Jags as we need 4 CB's. Maybe he see's us as having that in Williams, Jags, Mori and Holgate? Williams could be Stones replacement for all we know and the Kone rumours are his agent after a new deal.

I don't see why Koeman would leave Southampton to join us if he knew that
We doubled his wages. I'd imagine 90% + of the population would agree to change jobs for twice the pay.
That's not to say that I believe we're skint. I don't but it is looking like the budget was exaggerated.

So can I ask why you think Mata is a possibility because I think the links that are out there all originate from boards like these?

Mata would be a great signing. He could even be the lift we need but I just with the way this window has gone don't expect it to be done.
It isn't Esk mate. But IMO too much smoke for there not be interest.

As I said, we'll just have to wait and see.

And for all those crying broken promises, please realise that the club has made no such promises.

I'm hoping for a strong end to the window. I'm frustrated it hasn't gone as well as we all hoped so far but it is how it is - and it's not over yet.

Especially considering he has said he wants to stay at Sunderland. Would he really say that if we were interested and it looked likely he would sign for us.
