Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Lots of stories about James McCarthy possibly going to Palace for £18m, and a link to Celtic as well. Koeman has apparently said McCarthy is in his plans, but with Idrissa and Barry being the midfield partnership he seems to be opting for, McCarthy may want to move on, rather than being back up or playing right wingback.

I would'nt mind if we did sell him, with everyone fit we would still have; Idrissa, Barry, Besic and Gibson for the central midfield roles, plus some of the younger players like Davies and Dowell. Also we could use that £18m on a striker

We'll get 3 good seasons out of Williams and at least 3 more out of Baines. Also I'm not sure how you deduced that they're not top 4 quality anymore, seems to be purely based on their age. I guess Morgan and Fuchs aren't top 4 quality either, and someone had better tell City they can't get top 4 with Zabaleta, Sagna and Clichy in the team.

You say that we need to be signing players at the level of Barkley etc, but you just mean in terms of age and potential, not actual talent. Not sure what your obsession is with youth.

Furthermore surely nobody in their right mind thinks we're going to finish lower than 10th again.

So Baines and Jags are "top notch" then? If so then why arent they playing for England as 'star players'? I also dont see the media raving about them as its obvious theyre on the way downhill.

You only need to see Baines now compared to 4 seasons ago (at prime age for a player) to know that.

I also havent mentioned anything about Barkleys age. It just happens that he, Lukaku and i think Deulofeu are Evertons best players and 10 years younger than these "superstars" who you think will be top quality at 35 years old.

You think those players that said they were attracted to United cos of Mourinho would've signed for us if we'd had Mourinho.

Easy to pretend you're attracted by some philosophy when you're getting £200k a week.

Players did sign for pellegrini and lvg btw.

Of course players will be signing for a team due to the manager. Essien is a good example, when he was at Bastia we offered him 50% more than lyon in wages and yet he said he would take less as he wanted to play for paul le guen at lyon.

Pal you forgot your obligatory references to Tielmans, Bazoer, Horn and Leno. Are you ok?

Especially when one of those was only bought about 2 weeks ago LOL

Could argue easily that Willams has been brought ibn as Jags replacement over the next 2-3 seasons - to give us that veteran and experienced defender aas Jagialka likely hasn't much longer left at the top (and is one more serious injury away from being done thses days)

Barry - think a replacement for him has been high ont he list all summer, hence getting a lot of central midfielders we have been after.

Baines - is just Zat's fantasy land as he hates him, and blames him for Bobbies demise

Williams - good for another 3-4 seasons as never relied on his pace but more experience and that doesn't go as fast with age

Are any of those players "top class" and would be considered good enough to start in a top 4 side as class players?

Just because they're on the wrong side of 30, doesn't mean they have nothing to offer. I doubt anyone would argue that they're in their prime, but if they lose their place in the England squad does that mean we should ship them out?

I think Wenger is right, the next 4 days will bring a level of spending unthought of in the prem.
Have to agree with you here.

There are over a dozen prem clubs sitting on huge piles of cash, but all getting quoted silly prices. Many of them are holding fire as a consequence of those silly prices. You still have City, United and Liverpool with bloated squads, looking to shift several players. There will be a frenzy on the final day I suspect.

I wish Baines would start to show some form again, he's been really poor for so long. Might be due to injuries, but he's supposed to be fully fit now and still looks a shadow of the player he was two years ago. Remember his two free kicks against West Ham? Looks like a different player nowadays. Hope he returns, but feel from next season it's time to look for a new long-term left back.

Williams is a better cb than the one arsenal are spending 30m on right now so yes.

Baines is a better lb than spurs, or United's so yes.

Jagielka right now and for the last two seasons is a better cb than stones is, he is also better than any of cities other cbs besides for kompany mate, so yes.
