From what I've seen (which admittedly isn't that much) he's not a player in the Pienaar mould. Don't get me wrong, he's as exciting as hell and his dribbling skills will get people off their seats. But we've already got like players in Bolasie and Del.

I agree with you that we need somebody in the squad with something a little bit different, the guile and vision to unlock packed defences. Somebody who is also excellent with set piece delivery and can challenge/supplement Ross in that playmaker role.

I would like that somebody to be Hakim Ziyech from FC Twente. He's been very consistent over 3 years in Holland and his goals/assists stats are excellent. I agree he's untried at the top level and he will undoubtedly take time to get used to the pace and physicality of the PL, but his attitude seems spot on and the suggested price of around £10m very reasonable.

My only concern is why nobody else appears willing to take a punt on him. It's not as if he's been under the radar.

Is this to say that Mourinho expressed a desire to keep him and Mata thought it was worth staying and fighting for his place?

Mourinho seems to be starting with him at the moment, it will be interesting to see how long that will be the case for.

Must admit I don't know which way to swing with Sissoko. His application and attitude appeared to be poor at Newcastle last season, but let's be honest, we can point the same finger at practically our whole squad for the final third of the season.

Conversely, he was one of the best players at the euro's, powerful, direct and goal threat from deep. Just show's what's in his locker if he's up for it.

Think I'll trust Ronald's judgement on this. Been happy with what he's brought in so far (personnel that is, not numbers!!)

I think Mickawhatsit will replace him in the side when he's fully settled in, but the fact that Mourinho has started with Mata in every game so far shows that he's going to have a role to play in that squad this season. I can't see him going anywhere now tbh.
