Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Southampton has a strike force of Austin, Pelle, Long and Rodriguez. I think one of the last 3 could go.

It looks like being Pelle to Italy doesn't it?

Rodriguez is almost a non-factor as he's still easing back from injury, so he'll neither be sold or relied upon.

I imagine they'll sell Pelle, and could be convinced to get rid of Long if the price is stupid and they can bring in a loan to replace or something.

I'm with you here Dave, though I do think that it would be a case of basically getting another Naismith-esque player. I think if we are looking to get a back up forward in as just that (and not someone who would start out wide left but could deputise up top if needed) then I'd prefer a loan as I think we'd get better value.
I've seen £12M quoted for him. Obviously out of the question. You pay that for starters. If S'ton accept £7M it'd be tidy business as he has resale value.

He will leave this window as he's in the same position as Gibson/McGeady.

By "price is right" I mean around £4m, no more. Even then I'd see it as a stop gap. £8m+ for someone like this would be irritating to me.

Weirdly, he'd be a good signing for the RS as he runs about and puts pressure on the back line, which is what they need for Klopp's style. Benteke will never do that.

Oh I agree there mate. £4-5mil I think would be a good deal. Anything more and i'd rather just go for someone on loan who can fill that role.

Long: if the price is reasonable then he's a player who comes in and sits patiently on the bench and leads the line well when called upon. Can get a goal too.

He'd be an able stand in if Lukaku is out of the team for a few matches and a decent player to put on in the last 15 to shake things up alongside Rom.

The price wouldn't be reasonable though, as he cost Southampton an extortionate £12m. Therefore this rumour has got to be a non-starter

S'ton need cash in, they dont require Long anymore, Long wants away = bargaining position.

I suspect he'll end up at Liverpool, but it'd be a coup of sorts if we stole a march on them and got him in for the £7/8M they offered.

Plus Shawcross (as well as been not all that) is their captain and Butland would almost certainly consider moving here a sideways step (plus he'd cost £20mil).
Exactly right mate. Does my head in reading everyone saying sign butland as if it's a likely signing. Even if we came in with 25m for butland stoke would tell us to do one

Not as certain as them two as long will go to the euros regardless of his lack of game time, Gibson and McGeady I'm not so sure.

I wouldn't pay anything north of 5m for Long either way, I'd be surprised if we're in for him.

And could play on the left wing with his pace versatility Roberto loves be good replacement for kone but just can't see us after him

Yes, there's that as well.

He's someone who chases down everything and can score a goal or two. If we go through this window without bringing in a recognised attacking understudy to Lukaku we'll all be on pins for the rest of the season when Lukaku challenges for every ball. His fitness will mean we continue to score in sufficient numbers or we dont. At least someone like Long can lead an attack in his absence.

I dont think Long is a player we'd have as our number 1 choice - ever. But in these circumstances he can offer us something...for the right price.
