Everton Transfer Thread 2016

shane long's goal scoring record is on par with naismith's so not too sure why people actually want him? Think i read he only got double figures for a season once and that was in the championship.

Silly season has finally started, amazed it actually took this Long for the papers to sell Barkley, Lukaku and Stones.

I would love to know what effect these rumours have on these players if they do at all. I suppose it all comes down to there agents and what spin they put on it, I'd imagine Lukaku's is salivating at the idea of a payday. I'd be confident of holding onto all 3 in January, but the Summer will be relentless unless we can get all 3 to sign improved deals early on before they go the Euro's.

If we manage to get past City in the semi at least the remaining days of the window will be much easier to take, none of them will leave then.

the really depressing thing is someone gets paid very well to write this stuff.

Again, depending who wrote it, they really don't get paid well.

The average wage for a journalist in their first job in London is usually, tops, £23k - and that's been very generous.

The more established journos (e.g. the ones who write features, interviews etc.) all work from home and earn a decent wedge, yes - and when they come up with the tosh they do it's astounding.

But this 'they get paid loads' thing about journos needs to stop - they don't!

Anyway, Long would be a decent option but I can't see us seriously going for him. He's okay but not really an improvement on Naismith. We need genuine first team quality I feel - rather than someone who will just be back up, which we would be better off going for on loan if we're not gonna spend any big money this window.

Nobody will leave this window apart from Gibson and McGeady.

What style is that? We're at our best when playing on the counter attack - which is what Long does best.

Irrelevant really as I don't think we'll sign him, but for a back up striker and a real alternative to Lukaku I think it would be a good option. Always liked Long, though he does look like he needs a slap every now and then - kind of got an annoying face.

*I should stress, I wouldn't want to pay more than £6mil for him. The RS will probalby stump up £15mil.

He would be good on the counter but his hold up play wouldn't be the best, as someone said earlier he would have been perfect under Moyes. Giving that he is 28 now I wouldn't see the benefit of signing him now just doesn't seem to be a Martinez type player for me.

I think Martinez doesn't have a specific type of player though, mate. He likes variety and it depends on the system he plays. I agree that it would be a weird signing though considering Long is pretty much Naismith but with more pace.

It's been shown time and time again, that most of these " rumours " are just lazy journalism based on absolutely nothing at all. One of my neighbours is a footy journo for a broadsheet and one of his biggest " sources " for info regarding transfer rumours is footy forums !!!

Surely we are sitting on some sort of war chest??? (in Everton terms)

We were ready to splash 15-17m on Yarms in summer, and TV money, now naisy?
