Long: if the price is reasonable then he's a player who comes in and sits patiently on the bench and leads the line well when called upon. Can get a goal too.

He'd be an able stand in if Lukaku is out of the team for a few matches and a decent player to put on in the last 15 to shake things up alongside Rom.

I'm with you here Dave, though I do think that it would be a case of basically getting another Naismith-esque player. I think if we are looking to get a back up forward in as just that (and not someone who would start out wide left but could deputise up top if needed) then I'd prefer a loan as I think we'd get better value.

Yeah because stoke will sell us 2 of their key players mid season, not to mention they're also in a cup semi....OK mate

Plus Shawcross (as well as been not all that) is their captain and Butland would almost certainly consider moving here a sideways step (plus he'd cost £20mil).

Would be a massive step back for us to spend the amount of money he'd cost for what he'd offer. He's a grafter, but not much else - a good option for a mid to lower Premier League side if the price was right.

Haha we're mid to lower at the moment...

But yeh I agree in principle. If the price was right (e.g. like Lennon) or we could get him on loan I think it would be a decent signing to fill the back-up striker role.

By "price is right" I mean around £4m, no more. Even then I'd see it as a stop gap. £8m+ for someone like this would be irritating to me.

Weirdly, he'd be a good signing for the RS as he runs about and puts pressure on the back line, which is what they need for Klopp's style. Benteke will never do that.
