In Greece at the moment and stayed up to watch all of that unfold
"Nothing will be the same" - Sorry, that felt exactly the same as a number of deadline days from our relatively recent past.
Happy with the business we did up to the deadline, but Koeman saying he wanted another 3 or 4 in and then us signing Enner effing Valencia on loan and a kid for the U23s screams "we chuffed up"
OK, the players we were going for may have been more expensive and higher profile than ones we may have been in for in recent times, but the way Everything collapsed was typical Everton of Kenwright and Elstone.
Koeman said he would be "disappointed" if we didn't get players in. I wonder how he feels today.
We were an Enner Valencia loan signing short of a "we'll go with what we've got" or "Niasse could be like a new signing" statement this morning.
Don't let Everton spin it - we've done ok in the window leading up to yesterday but we ended up miles and miles short of what Koeman asked for. And that's the danger of letting things drag out until the last minute - if everything falls apart, you're left with nowhere to go except on the phone to The Porn Kings, begging them to let us borrow their 4th choice striker
I honestly, truly believed we were past all this
You have to look at who the common denominators are in all this and if it is Kenwright and Elstone who have led the negotiations, they need to be put out to grass before they can be allowed to cock up the next window - and if we do want players, let's get things arranged long before 31st Jan, eh?
For the first time, I don't think finances were a problem - we were (allegedly) bidding £30m+ for at least a couple of players so I'm guessing the problems are elsewhere.
Still, I expect Koeman to get much more out of this squad than Spanish Bob did, so perhaps next summer players will look at us as something else other than the team who finished 11th two years on the bounce.
Everton, effing Everton
