Everton Transfer Thread 2016

We wanted him to be backup to Coleman and Deulofeu but the lad wanted to start everyweek and wasn't prepared to fight or challenge the players i mentioned?

But as quoted, Martinez said he "wasn't the right player for our squad" anyway, which would make it baffling that we actually bid for him

At one point they seemed to know what they were talking about. Not sure these days but they did have a rep.

think all of us know Yarmalenko isn't happening, depends how much some of us want to hang some hope that we are signing him over championship right backs.

They got Garbutt contract, Mirallas contract and Deulofeu early and made it clear they did know before hand. But everything now seems opinion based

To be fair to him, he was the first person I saw who was suggesting that the Byram deal wasn't going to happen when all the media were saying it was a done deal to come here. Of course, it may well have been a guess or whatever.

We bid on him as we wanted him but after talks it is apparent he didn't want to fight for a place or be second string so therefore Martinez states correctly that he wasn't the right player for us. Martinez wanted to nurture him but he wanted to be involved straight away by the sound of it.

I see the 'not right for us' as a comment to do with the lad wanting first team togger immediately rather than 'fighting' to get into the team. Which, if you see it like that is the opposite of what you want.

The thing is he's 22 so he probably should want first team football. Coleman's only 5 years older than him though. It would have given us a stronger squad and great back up at RB but probably would have been bad for him.

Can't remember but I try and remove rippings apart of us from my brain.

He's right I think. We signed Baines in 2007 and he hardly played in 2007/08 (we finished 5th and got beat by Fiorentina - Yakubu was boss I think).

Then Lescott moved into the centre with Jagielka moving deeper as well and Baines took his place.

Could be read as him wanting first team play right away or could be read as Martinez not being impressed with his attitude after speaking with him or could be read as saving face after losing out on him. Whatever way you read it it's not the end of the world is it?

THT does have some reasonable info, though a lot of his twitter posts are quite opinion based, sometimes backed up by a slither of inside knowledge. Miss him from here tbh as he always seemed sound.

Byram was at a bargain price and too good to ignore.
He is quite experienced and is English(which puts a premium on his value). He may turn into a good right back and become a good premiership player, for Everton in the future or a player that we should make a profit on if he didn't make the grade as a top player.
I think the manager was honest with him, and Byram realised that he had Coleman ahead of him , Browning, Pennington and Kenny coming on as well , it was going to be very difficult to really establish himself at Everton.
WHU offered greater opportunities for him and he took them.

I suppose it does throw a question mark about the future for some of our younger players who can play right back.

Why did we bid for him and then offer him a contract then?
Probably as back up and he (Byram) didn't want to wait:

“There’s always a correct path for any youngster to fulfil his potential - and players need to earn that opportunity. It wasn’t right to bring a young player in for the sake of it. And it wasn’t right for Sam."

Seems clear to me he wanted guarantees.

We have had offers accepted for lots of players who, after talks, have not signed.

If a player does not want to fight for their place then I would not want them at Everton.
It is a team/squad game.
