Byram was at a bargain price and too good to ignore.
He is quite experienced and is English(which puts a premium on his value). He may turn into a good right back and become a good premiership player, for Everton in the future or a player that we should make a profit on if he didn't make the grade as a top player.
I think the manager was honest with him, and Byram realised that he had Coleman ahead of him , Browning, Pennington and Kenny coming on as well , it was going to be very difficult to really establish himself at Everton.
WHU offered greater opportunities for him and he took them.

I suppose it does throw a question mark about the future for some of our younger players who can play right back.

but no experience whatsoever at prem, european or international level.

i would have liked him to bulk up the squad - but there will be other alternatives around the world. I don't believe martinez when he says "he wasn't right for us" being the reasoning though - that's a bit of a cover up to save face.

Byram was too good to ignore and worth bidding for but he wasn't a priority. He was an opportunity to get a player of potential before a rival did. He could be the next Stones or Dele Alli or he could be another Jose Baxter.

well I reckon we could close this thread now and save the ,expectation, hope, disappointment of getting in from work and seeing no change ,reckon our transfer "in's" are finished for this month, fine by me actually, there's plenty of options in the squad to get through this season

I think our best prospect at RB is Kenny and he's 5 years younger than Byram so it probably won't be too much of an issue.

I'm happy Bryam didnt sign for us, when Coleman is 30-31 then Kenny will be 21/22 and the perfect age to think about replacing him, Bryam would more than likely have just cockblocked the path through for him long term - rather have a player who is a local lad and who at 18 has a million miles more potential than Bryam had at the same age

IT IS... We are paying too many players on top dollar to be in the squad, never mind the bench

Hibbert, McGeady to an extent Piennar

The squad isn't too big, we just have too many players in the squad who can't contribute due to being perennially injured or just not good enough, we have a fake big squad, strip away the crap we have holes in their

.....and it'll happen the other way around. You just have to accept these things and move on.

Really... take a step back and take a deep breath while you take your blue tinged glasses off

He is from Essex, his family are hammers supporters, chance to move back to near your home against signing for EFC.... if it was me and EFC came calling I would do exactly the same

Genuine question:

If you were offered the chance to go to two clubs and one was offering you a more realistic opportunity of first team football and the other wanted you to go and prove yourself and learn from one of the best right backs in the league...which would you choose?

Yep agreed. Primarily the holes are at left wing, back up striker and keeper. It isn't that we don't have players there, indeed we do, but Pienaar and Kone are getting on with Pienaar struggling for fitness and Kone not the most inspiring backup, while Howard has been dogshit while Joel needs a run of 10 or so games to show what he has about him. Pienaar in particular is on high wages and not contributing anything near enough to justify them.
