Everton Transfer Thread 2016

yep and we need a backup striker (one who is also ok with sitting on the bench behind Rom for long stretches). Hopefully its not too much money though, big difference between Elemerc(?) and River Plate
Interesting that Enner Valencia also played for the same team a few years ago, and has a much less impressive scoring record of 27 goals in 130 games.

Bolanos' 44 in 76 is prolific in comparison. I'd take a punt depending on the price.

Rhodes is going to Middlesbrough for 11 million including add ons, and they were prepared to pay the same for Ross McCormack. Neither player has played a single minute of top flight football and yet prices for these type of players is 10 million+.

Far better value is shopping abroad obviously. West Ham got Payet for that and we picked up Mori for less even though plenty baulked at the fee at the time.

Also looking at Bolanos, his best position is apparently behind the main striker but can also play as an attacking wide player and central striker so seems to tick the boxes Martinez likes.

The Bolanos plot thickens! Just seen that Elemerc are signing a striker on Monday, and look who it is!!

The signing of Dennis Stracqualursi by Emelec would materialize on Monday reported the journalist Jorge Pazmiño on his Twitter account ( japazmi ) . Pazmiño indicates that the ' millionaire ' club already has the offer list consisting of one year with an option for renewal. However , the offer has not been delivered because blue leadership is fixing the quota of foreigners and it is full ( 4). So you must exit one or naturalized to play as Ecuador . The ' power ' of directors hopes that Monday is already defined this transaction - See more at: http://www.estadio.ec/articulo/futb...-de-stracqualursi-emelec#sthash.ehaHhUcf.dpuf

Those, and one person in particular keeps pointing out the Boselli signing for Wigan without actually looking at it, hell bent on just slating Martinez. Have some perspective...

1. We are looking for back up, not first choice.

2. Wigan didn't have 10m for first-choice striker, nevermind 28m for the striker we have.

3. While it didn't work out for Boselli in England, you can see why he was gambled on, (1 in 2 strike rate). You can see the logic in why Wigan took a gamble on him.

4. Boselli was always going to be a gamble for Wigan, yes it turned out to be a poor signing but they had to take that risk because of the size they are. They needed relatively cheap bargains who COULD, turn good.

5. We are in a position where we can sign a lad from here with a 1/2 goal rate and test the waters without any real damage financially, Wigan were not. Even at the time of signing, 6m wasn't really that much.

6. Boselli is now in Mexico after a poor stint at Palermo (Oh look, another manager obviously thought they may be able to get something out of him). He's scored 49 goals in 72 games for Leon. YES he didn't work out in Europe, but he obviously isn't garbage and was always going to be a gamble.

Sir Alex Ferguson took these gambles, sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't... (Eric Djemba Djemba, Kleberson).... then £12m for a lad from Sporting Lisbon, that gamble turned out well? Point being sometimes it just doesn't work. Doesn't make the manager terrible, doesn't make the player terrible. That Boselli signing was ALWAYS a signing with a risk, it didn't work out. Stop pointing it out without the relevant perspective.

What do you judge Ferguson on, his trophies or his transfers? If you want to criticse Martinez for his management this season, fair enough, it's criticisable... His transfer record is generally very good.
