Noticed at the bottom of that report in the related stories it mentions that Villarreal, Oporto and Udinese have looked at this lad. 3 clubs with a good reputation for discovering hidden gems.

From what I can tell, that article is just basing off the rumour in the Times, so not really any local knowledge, per-say.

Checking Soccerway, our new Carlos Kickaball has started every match in Ecuador's six-match winning streak they are currently on, including a 2-0 victory over Argentina. He usually plays as a second striker/attacking midfielder, and occasionally starts up top alongside last week's Carlos Kickaball, Felipe Caicedo.

Their season does not start until next weekend, and Emelec won the league last season.

I do love a Carlos Kickaball...
