Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

People Still think we only need 3 players? Pathetic group of cowards who have let down 4-5 managers now. Need several signings just for the starting 11
Yup.

As a very minimum we need starting wingers left and right, a right back and a centre half and central midfielder. And that's hoping the likes of Digne and Pickford can drastically improve their performances next season otherwise I'd have put those positions too.

I could live without a new STARTING cb as long as the rest of the holes are plugged in, but those other 4 positions are 10000% must-fill.

I'll be sick to the bottom of my stomach when I see more than two of Sigurdsson, Walcott, Tosun, Iwobi, Schneiderlin, Davies, Delph on our books next season.

Im gonna go say it - bring Rom home.

Richarlison Lukaku

What a front 2 with DCL to come off the bench and be a nuisance to tiring opposition legs.
He'd improve us no doubt, but he's playing at a club that is pretty often in the CL and has a real shot at the title in coming years under Conte. There's no way he's coming back.

Find the next Rom. We might have in DCL and I still believe in Kean. But if they're ultimately not it there will be another.

Why would he come here.

I think we would have the ability to offer him the three year contract that he is asking for. But I accept that more attractive clubs would also be willing to do that, so it is unlikely that we would get him.

Agreed. I just think we can step up in quality without making Crystal Palace type past their peak but still decent signings.

I'm more worried about us making Everton type signings, were we spend over 100 million on average dross like Iwobi, Gbamin and Sigurdsson with all their wages added on top.

Again though those have the potential (well not Sigurdsson but the others) to push us up a level over time. If instead we signed Willian, Matic and Juan Mata we might be better for a year or possibly two, but we would eventually end up right where we are now without trophies and needing to build a core of a squad.

I do think we need to try and buy smarter but my idea of that is to buy players for 15-20m that are an age where worst case is you move them on for a slight loss after a few years. There is so much unidentified talent around the world that we could buy it, develop it, and win with it if we really worked at doing that. I know it's frustrating for the long suffering fans but we will not build ourselves up in a single window or even two or three. It has to be a process.

I think its quite clear we need somewhat of a quick fix - none of this signing 19 year olds that might be good in 3 years time.

I would hope we bring in 1-2 top players who may be reaching their twilight years but have the leadership/big game experience to give us a short term push for Europe in which we can sign younger upgrades once in Europe/Champions League.

Players like Allan, Mertens - some players with fight and quality who can help the younger players out in the side.
But why would players in their twilight years want to play for a midtable team without European football? If the answer is money or Carlo then they lack the ambition to take us to where we want to be.

If we had a Kanchelskis / Ronaldo on the right then we'd be a different side...teams wouldnt be able to push up so much against us...

Currently, as long as DCL/Richarlison are isolated then the theme continues and weve just got 2 attacking threats.

So we must sign a goal threat at right mid/wing.

Then a superstar centre midfielder....

I get the shouts for signing players in their peak but we cant attract or afford top quality...we need to go for young players who can become top class but who can make an impact now....Gomes/Davies just got schooled by an 18 year old.

Go for the same age profile and hunger as Holgate, DCL and Richarlison and keep building a top side.

This is not the root cause of our problem. It is helpful but we will still be poor if we don’t change the way we play.

Need young, fast energetic players. Nobody over 25, and stop overpaying for crap like Walcott , Sigurdsson, Schneiderlin, all the wrong side of 30, huge wages and no sell on value if needed binned. Ridiculous over spend

i know Gareth Barry was such a terrible signing wasn’t it.

we have enough youth, we need people who are ready now, Brands business plan I believe will be slightly different this window.

The black and white rule won’t apply to age, it will be what they can offer now, and over the length of their contract.

No one over 25, stop being silly!

Apologies if this goes over a lot of already covered ground.

Priorities for me are:

Centre Mid - Even if Gbamin gets fit, he might be bang average. Need a 'first name on the teamsheet' signing.

Right back - Sidibe has fallen off a cliff. Looked 'ok' early season albeit not great defensively. The fact we have seen the completely shot coleman more than once suggests it's an issue. Maybe Kenny is good enough (I have no idea tbh) but he may want to stay in Germany.

Centre back - need another quick one. Felt a bit sorry for Keane yesterday. Completely unsuitable unless we sit really deep.

Right mid - a creative, pacey outlet.

Hopefully Leeds come up and take Delph back. Walcott off to the MLS where he will look decent. Sigg? We're stuck with him on his substantial salary.

Keane won't cut it, Sidibe won't cut it, Schneiderlin/Sigurdsson/Davies won't cut it. Need a better right winger. I'm not convinced Dom will lead a top-4 finishing line.

There's a lot for Everton needed to be able to compete for the Champions League.
