It'll make us better next year but could set us back 3 years if it stops us for looking for a longer term option and he loses it halfway through his contract here and just eats wages until it expires. I wouldn't.Willian is available on a free. I'm not in love with him and other options should be considered but he looked sharp and absolutely mullered our lot today.

There's a chance it might not work isn't a good reason to not do something. Playing it safe will get us nowhere that much I'm sure of.I understand your reasoning, but there's every chance that the younger option will just flop and never improve us at all. Chelsea think he is good enough to offer him a further two years. I think we should be willing to take a hit on the cost of his wages in the third year to get hold him.
That's if he would even consider us. Bigger, better, clubs will be interested in him.

It's nice you want to spend £10m on Mertens even tho he's on a free in the summer. That's the reason he was "available" in January for about £5m.CM Allan - £20-25 million
RW Mertens £8-10 million
RB: ???
CB Gabriel £25-30 million
LW: Everton Soares: £25-30 million
CF: ???
Get that sort of business done with the likes of Keane, Siggurdsson, Schneiderlin, Davies, Kenny & Iwobi out the door hopefully for fees and I'll be more confident about next season.

The problem is we get better for a year maybe two, still win nothing because of how far off we are, and end up right back where we were except there's another Sarr or whoever tearing it up that we didn't sign and could have.I agree.
But part of your reasoning in being against signing Willian on a free is that it might not work out, and/or that it represents too much of a risk. Ultimately, every signing represents a risk, there are no sure-things. But personally, I'm absolutely sick and tired of buying 30 million pound flops that don't cut the mustard.
I'm not in love with him, if there's someone better then fine, go and get him. But I think he would be a very good addition, and also think we may struggle to attract him because bigger clubs will also be interested in him.

Why would he come here.Willian is available on a free. I'm not in love with him and other options should be considered but he looked sharp and absolutely mullered our lot today.

Agreed. I just think we can step up in quality without making Crystal Palace type past their peak but still decent signings.Fine, lets hope we get a Sarr and not an Iwobi.
