Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

  • Juventus. Worked under legendary transfer guru, Luciano Moggi.
  • Milan. Worked with one of the most domineering and invasive executives of all time in Silvio Berlusconi, who was very involved if not dominated transfer policy (and everything else).
  • Chelsea. Worked under Roman Abramovich / Frank Amesen as a combo who were primarily responsible for transfer strategy, which included strange Russian player purchases (Yuri Zhirkov) and poor fits (Fernando Torres) with bad market returns.
  • Real Madrid. Worked under domineering Florentino Perez, who likely bought Gareth Bale to set the transfer record at the time amongst other players and seemed to automatically fire managers every year or so.
  • Bayern Munich. Worked under Uli Hoeneß who was a club legend, uber traditional, and was very active – to the extent that he pushed an assistant coach on Ancelotti in Sagnol that might have contributed to him “losing the dressing room”.
  • Napoli. Worked under Aurelio De Laurentis who didn’t seem to lack ego and was heavily involved in club operations. Ancelotti’s lack of support for the De Laurentis imposed November bootcamp probably contributed more to his removal than his team’s performances.
On Bayern, as well as Hoeness they also always have a genuine director of football too. It's Salihamidzic at the moment. Can't remember who it was when Carlo was there. Probably either Matthias Sammer or Christian Nerlinger.

Wasn't Zidane also DoF at Real Madrid at some point? Not sure if that was when Carlo was there though.

I'd take Longstaff if it's the right one, I know one of them is highly thought of around Newcastle but not sure it is the one we apparently want.

Most of the names being mentioned in relation to us (i think) are bring chucked in by agents. All agents want is to get their clients (and themselves) a nice big fat pay cheque so what better way to get it than link them to teams they know are in the market for players because they have had a crap season and have money to drum up interest. Personally reckon that probably two of the names out there are of genuine interest to us (Allan and Gabriel) the rest are just names chucked in that we have no interest in. All this is obviously my personal opinion i guess the next two months will prove me right or wrong.

n November 2010, Zidane was appointed as a special adviser to Real Madrid's first team in response to an appeal made by then-Real Madrid coach José Mourinho for the former Real midfielder to work more closely with the team. In his new role, Zidane was expected to participate in Champions League events and functions and was also to travel with the first team on a regular basis and participate in pre-match gatherings, training sessions and meetings with the head coach.[129] In July 2011, it was announced that he would become Real Madrid's new sporting director.[130] In 2013, Zidane was appointed assistant coach to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.[131]

Aggression is not the only issue it’s footballing ability, touch, reading of the game, tactical awareness etc...
Thing is the u23s should be playing the very same system as the first team. Same formation, same style of football etc..
U23s should mean if a player steps up he is comfortable with the first team system.
It's not about winning their league.

Ain't Longstaff known for two things? His more talented brother and for scoring both his goals against Manchester United?

If I remember correctly Newcastle had all kind of injuries and/or suspensions when he got his chances. Never been a regular starter. Never been good enough.

Makes you wonder why a boyhood fan refuse to sign a contract for the club he grew up in as a 20 year old. Is it because he needs to move to get regular first team football? Is money the motivation for a move?

Also keep in mind that an out of contract young player is not free when it is a transfer within England. I don't know, but Longstaff could probably end up costing anything from 3 to 5 million. Plus sell-on rights. While the cost of signing a younger and more talented Nkounkou is £240 000.

Yes but the point still stands that when these players are handed over to the first team they make a huge impact and are good enough to keep getting selected by multiple different managers. Yet their performances started declining once in first team training. Why should Unsworth take the blame for that?
