... and to elaborate on the last post... Madrid's youth team La Fabrica give a lot more autonomy to the coaches to play systems based on the players they have. It's not that rigid. The players that have developed there have had a load of success outside Madrid (and at the club).

Barça on the other hand, from the girls teams to the B team are strictly 4-3-3 pass and move. Have been for years... The first team has been a bit distorted in recent years to accommodate Messi but they will go back to it soon. Very rigid philosophy.

Both are different options... Who's to say which is correct

I went over a few years ago on a futsal tour with my son, and they was invited to watch a few age groups play some games.

in 1 game, Barcelona had too many players on the pitch for about 10 mins, it was embarasing, so unprofessional.

The whole set up at younger age groups is so over-rated and its way over-played how special it all is.

Its not better set up than all the other cat 1 acads I have been to.

Very true. And that what worries me about this lad. Our non existent midfield totally dominated Newcastle that night. And he played in midfield that night or was it his brother?
Think it helped that we started with Delph and Schneiderlin who both have a concept of positional discipline - unlike some of our other midfielders.

Both the brothers started that night too btw.

Everyone was fawning over La Masia when it churned out Xavi Iniesta Messi Busquets. Who has it produced since? Maybe Sergi Roberto the utility right back midfielder is the only one who has nailed down a place in the Barca 11.

United’s fabled academy barely produced anyone in between the class of 92 and now Rashford and Greenwood.

Sometimes philosophy is a load of rubbish. Only generational talents come through and they always do come through. We haven’t missed out on Rooney or Barkley because of the formations we play in our academy. Equally for all the structure in La Masia they haven’t produced players anywhere near that golden generation.

People just like to bash Everton for absolutely anything but there’s a lot wrong with Everton to rightly criticise before the academy.
