Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

Not exactly a hub of activity from everyone else.

Leicester/Wolves/Burnley done nothing of note

Sheffield Utd have downgraded there goalkeeper

City/Chelsea/Southampton been busiest

Spurs only signed Hojbjerg so far

Rest of the signings are youth players or making loans permanent

I don't see them as stopgap signings at all, more like a building a solid fondation, which is needed to develop these youngsters also which we don't have right now

Im not sure how you can say we are "building a solid foundation" when you sign a 29 and 27 year old.

A foundation would be something long term which (as i wrote) is not Allan, Doucoure, Sigurdsson, Besic, Gomes or Davies. Also at things stand probably not Gbamin either through no fault of his own.

In 2 years time most of those players will have left the club and in 3 years we will be looking at (or already have) replacements.

Thats what you call a 2-3 year stopgap.

Keane will start ahead of Mina under CA in my opinion.
I think the player has improved enormously since he has received the trust of the manager and is probably first choice central defender now.

I also think Keane should keep away from international football, it nearly destroyed his career.

I consider myself to be quite an open minded person.

How has Keane improved under Ancelotti? Hes always been relatively effective in a deep defence so i assume you mean hes improved in a high line? Or playing out from the back? His mobility? Something else?

Any examples or thoughts on that?

He can't play if we're going to play in a high line unless we have Holgate there.

In fact, the only defender who we currently have who can comfortably play in a high line is Holgate.

Yes, only Holgate and Digne can play anything other than a deeper sitting defence.

I highlighted Branthwaite as someone who may also be able to cope with a high line (note 'may') but weve not seen enough of him yet. Also possibly Nkounkou so perhaps both the left backs.

As i initially highlighted, ideally we would need a new rapid RB then we may be able to have Mina there alongside Holgate as we would have 3 players with pace. Though as i wrote, Tomori would be a decent shout because hes rapid and could easily play a high line.

Furnishing Keane with a new contract seems to be a sign that we will be going very defensive and deep though.

So looks like Allan / Doucoure then add in the yards in midfield allowing us to be hard to break down.

Concern would be how we actually get up the pitch lol

That's what's said every window though.. I'm not disagreeing but I'd rather we invested the money in someone who goes into the 11 without any hesitation, Richarlison type ability or level.

Just annoys me the money we have thrown away...
I fully agree mate. But for that to work you need to have a decent group of players to start with. Somebody said earlier we're only as good as our weakest links, and that's true. But we have too many weak links at he moment. CM, RB and RW are the obvious ones.

Our first task has to be to sort out those problem area's, and then start to build/improve as you suggest. Otherwise the really good players like Richarlison, Digne and Holgate will get fed up waiting and start pushing for a move.

If we're to hold on to hat type of player I would suggest we need to get European qualification this season. Just adding one player to this current squad, no matter how good he may be, will not bring that about in my opinion. I think Sarr at Watford is a tremendous talent and I'd love him for the RW position, but he couldn't keep Watford in the Premier League.

I mean we need to build some consistency which we probably wouldn't get from youths. Even if they leave after 3 years we may have league standings to work from. I don't knie if Allan specifically is the answer as i haven't watched him play but i'm not against someone from that agebracket ad long as that would get us some stability

Never understand how transfer market works.
Regardlesd details, it should be done in 10 minutes like when we walk into convenience store.
buyer: how much?
seller: 30m.
buyer: how about 25?
seller: no way.
buyer: ciao (get out and try other stores)
lol

For the way we want to play Mina is the better option, is at least semi competent with the ball at his feet and can read the game a little better than Keane. As soon as Keane is asked to play any other way than backs to the wall he crumbles

Hot take...Keane is better on the ball than Mina.
