It wouldn't surprise me if a number of players move on in the next couple of weeks. They might not be good enough for us, but they could add something to other teams. The problem is they don't all work in the same team, so as long as 1 team doesn't buy the lot, they may still have some value in this league.
We've done it plenty of times in the past as well, taken another teams surplus and they have improved us no end. I mean, James Rodriguez was considered surplus to Real, and an expensive weight they needed to lose as he was not considered an option for them. Same for Bale.
There is a danger of thinking because certain haven't worked here, they are now incapable of doing it elsewhere. As much as I don't rate Sigurdsson, or what he offers here, he was clearly a hero at Swansea, and for a team of a smaller stature, he could go there and be a hero to them as well. Same applies to Walcott, Bernard, Delph, etc, whose experience could be the difference between staying up and going down, so financially, it's a gamble worth taking.
Others, like Iwobi, Kenny, and even Davies, are still young enough that they could become something and be a long term investment, if they get the opportunity to nail down a place, something they are unlikely to do here. Davies in particular, I feel is fighting an uphill battle here, and I've said before, a fresh start could be just what he needs.
I have a feeling that our transfer activity will see a number of outgoings, maybe as many as 10, be it permanent or loans, before a final influx of incoming players in the final week of the window. The injury to Branthwaite will likely hasten the CB cover (I wouldn't be surprised to see Stones come in on a loan with an option to buy next summer, especially if City can finalise Koulibaly), but I can still see us adding a RB, a winger, a forward, a Goalkeeper and at least 1 additional midfielder, dependent on outgoings.
With the business we have done so far, something tells me we are making moves to try and balance the squad, and it would be almost counterproductive to do the business we have and just stop there.
