Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

We tend to overestimate other teams goalkeepers to the point where we hold them up as super solid reliable options who are really cheap and can be picked up anywhere. All of a sudden players like Dubravka, Pope, Heaton, Henderson, Guaita are all far better keepers than Pickford and never make any errors.

Bizarrely though it’s always Pickford that gets linked with United and Chelsea for a big money move and Southgate keeps picking him.

Ask fans of any of those teams with those keepers and they’d all probably moan about their own and falsely big up other ones. The only difference was because Pickford is England number one he gets a lot of media attention, add to this being an Everton player who had the temerity to do well at a World Cup he was always going to get pellets from the kopite media after that. When he makes a mistake it’s discussed for weeks, when Dubravka makes one it’s forgotten by half time. When Pickford was at Sunderland none of his mistakes were talked about.

People seem tor honk there’s keepers out there who don’t make errors, make loads of saves, positionally perfect, and have good distribution, and will be cheap in the market. It’s not the case. Apart from Liverpool and City fans I don’t know many teams happy with their goalkeeper and even Ederson has been poor this season and Allison makes lots of errors that are just conveniently glossed over after the game by the PR machine or he gets let off the hook by strikers missing from a yard out.

1. He’s not decent though.
2. And literally anyone

Love the adverts on here.

Looks like Gordon Ramsey has read your post and is putting himself forward for the role of goalkeeper. Even the underneath caption works :)

Rob Green was “the England goalkeeper”, so was David James, so was Paul Robinson, is that supposed to be an accolade?

Thank god you aren't in charge of our finances then.
You've also brought up ex goalkeepers who played for England that suit your agenda. David Seaman, Peter Shilton and Gordon Banks played in goal for England, does that suit my agenda ?
Simple point is we get as much money as we can for Pickford, not the first amount that is thrown around in the papers, probably crap anyway, or the first offer if it's true.
Secondly whether you like it or not, rate him or not, being England's number one is still prestigious and still adds ££££'s to any fee's or wages for that matter. Hope I've answered your sarcasm adequately and correctly, bye.

Kepa is turd but for some reason he seems to have been made the yardstick for a goalkeeper’s value. He was a deadline day panic buy because they sold Courtois with 3 days of the window left.
The fact that they blew that much on that turd gives me hope they’re stupid enough to give us our money back on baby hart

Luckily with the Euros being cancelled people will have another year to hide behind this.

Exactly, it is, that’s why those saying hes not a problem are wrong. As long as Pickford in goal for us we’ll concede silly goals.
Like I’ve said before if you offered most teams in the prem a straight swap with theirs majority of them would tell us to [Poor language removed]

Haha, not saying I like him, Sagey, just saying we should get as much as we can for him. But as you now say get someone better, no literally anyone. ;)

It has to be this summer if we’re ever going to recoup or even make a profit on the fee we paid. Another year of him clowning around and being dropped by England will be the final nail in that particular coffin. Not a chance he’s walking out as first choice at the Euros.

....folk automatically suggest goalkeepers from Burnley or Newcastle because they are familiar, but it would be folly to concentrate on the underwhelming PL goalkeeping market when there’s a big world to pick from.

If Pickford is sold, I would personally want a big goalkeeper who commands his area. I’m not overly bothered if he can pick a 50 yard pass or does 100 Keepy-ups, i am bothered that he consistently and cleanly takes crosses and imposes his authority on the penalty area.
