Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

Romero has barely put a foot wrong for United since he joined on a free transfer from Sampdoria in 2015. The Argentinian has kept 39 clean sheets in 61 appearances, which gives him the best shutout percentage (64 per cent) of any goalkeeper who has made more than five appearances for the club.

80+ caps for Argentina.

I think he's fairly highly rated.
Come on mate

The majority of those games he played for United were in the League Cup and Europa League that were against Championship level teams or lower. And it's nearly 3 years since his last game for the National team.

Look, I'm not against bringing the guy in. In fact I want him to come as we need to have proper competition for Pickford and somebody we can rely on to replace him if he continues to make silly mistakes. But anybody who thinks we would be bringing in an International keeper at the top of his game, who is a genuine upgrade on Pickford is, in my opinion, going to be seriously disappointed. There's a reason why he has been happy to play second fiddle to De Gea for the last 5 years. When he signed he knew it was as back up to arguably the best keeper in the world at the time and his game time would be nominal.

I haven't seen that much of the guy but from what I have seen he seems to be a safe pair of hands, and one of our Argentine posters said he's been the best of the keepers for the National team over the last 10 years. But Pickford is a very good shot stopper and excellent in one on ones and closing down attackers.

Romero is not the answer to replace Pickford. When we replace him we need somebody who gives us the upside without the mistakes and bad decision making. Or we need Pickford to just cut out the mistakes and bad decision making. Romero however could be a short term answer to put pressure on Pickford for the number 1 spot, and to buy us some time to find a long term replacement if need be. That's why I wouldn't give him a long term contract on a £100k pw salary.

Read numerous reports Rodriguez might even be on under £100k p/w

think we basically paid his full 12m wages as atransfer fee. Madrid paid him out ... we paid them back ... that way Madrid don’t have to pay sell on clause. So over 3 years that’s 80k a week and he’s on 77k a week here . Works out well for everyone and works out for him as nearly 160k a week for 3 years , we get him for 12m and Madrid get rid

Again, I haven't seen much of him, but when we were first linked I did plenty of research and he's a very decent Keeper and is perfect for what we need, from what I can see.

If we can get him for cheaper than 10m and less than 100k, great, if not, I would still be ok with it.

I get that we have wasted a lot of money, but that doesn't mean every player we sign will be a waster.
If we're looking at him as cover and to provide competition for Pickford, I agree it is a no brainer from a footballing view. If we're looking at him to replace Pickford, then I think it's a big mistake.

The guy is seemingly happy to sit on the bench, play cup games and take his money, a mentality that a lot of back up keepers need to have. That's fine, but if we give him a long term contract on a £100kpw we ain't shifting him Goat.

I've no idea how much he's on at the moment at United. Who knows, these supposed wage demands may also be a total fabrication and the guy;s happy to sign u for £50kpw. Fine, I'd have no issue with that, on a short contract.

Like Fleetwood you mean?

8m a season, for somebody to really challenge Pickford? I would buy him twice.

As I say tho, I would be lying if I said I had watched much of him, few concerns regarding his knees as well I believe?

Im sure Brands will work his magic.

Yeah he has dodgy knees, though somehow came out of a full-speed crash on the motorway last year unscathed! His car was in bits too.

He's decent. I don't think he's actually better than Pickford but he'd definitely add better competition than we've had here in ages.

Rumour is that he wants out of United due to promises made with regards games.

Believe he's on a very big wedge, mate. Highest earner by a fair way from what the Athletic lads have said (again, they'd know more than most others, they are both clued in with the clubs as most of their respective journos are tbf - it's why they don't publish stuff until it's done, as to not p*** the club off). Maybe a lot of that will be bonus/appearance-related though, obviously I wouldn't know that!

Does he throw the ball into his own goal? If not, I’m fairly sure he’s better than Pickford.
