Mate Willian is not that good at all.

He already looks pretty finished, never mind in 2 years time

If he’s finished, then Iwobi has never started. He walks into our right midfield spot and would strengthen us considerably as a result.

I don’t think he would be like Kanchelskis, but I think he is a low risk signing that will end up at a top club.

People are cacking themselves that he may become as crap as Iwobi in three years time, but I don’t see how that’s anywhere near as bad as paying 25 million for someone that is as crap as Iwobi in the first place.

You should never use a bad player as a metric for signing another player.

Im better than Alex Iwobi.

Hes better than any wide player we have in the squad, but hes 32 in August, hes lacked hunger and drive at Chelsea since the fans turned on him and he was denied his move to Spain. I would rather not roll the dice to see if he can get it back fighting for 8th with us.

Fair enough. I just don’t see it as that much of a roll of the dice. I think it’s the 25 million pound purchases of players that nobody else is interested in that are the real gambles.

I’d have Willian at Everton, but the reality is that he’s likely to get a better offer from a better team that isn’t buying 25 million pound nobodies.

Have to agree on not going for Willian. I still think Allan would be a great signing. He knows how Carlo likes to operate and fills our biggest need. We'll get a good few years out of him. Like @catcherintherye said, you can still sign a few older players as long as they are the right fit

Well I dont recall many 25m nobodies we have signed.

You mention Iwobi, but hes still young, theres still time for him to come good and if not we should be able to recoup some money back if we sell him.

But I totally agree, Willian will be looking for something better than us.

It's tough to maintain continuity if you're constantly bringing in older players and shifting them out after maybe three seasons. Part of why Spurs were able to claw their way up to the top is that they had a core team that didn't change for close to four seasons. That matters and is a lot harder to achieve when most of the players will be nearing the end not long after they start.

That's just one of the problems with going after older guys.

No mate they just had a team of top quality players.

Age has no bearing on a teams success its the quality of player and manager coaching them that does

And how many of those players were top quality when Spurs bought them? You could maybe make an argument for a couple like Alderweireld and Dembele, but Kane, Son, Eriksen, Alli, Vertonghen, Walker and maybe even more were all developed by Spurs.

Only Kane & Walker they developed mate - the rest were highly rated when they signed.

Dont get me wrong its ideal having a side that knows one another well enough - but a problem with that is things go stale and most Spurs fans would tell you they have been desperate for investment into the side to have continued to push on.
