Cant say ive watched the boy at all C.

Heavily linked to Spurs from what I can see.

The thing is we need to be getting these players before Saints, they paid 12m for the boy and I can see them looking for 30-40m, no idea if hes worth that.

His contract is up next season and it doesn't look like he's signing so would be cut price on the deal

Saw him linked before though

Thats sound mate - but we should be signing players good enough for now not in 6-7 years time when Ancelotti may not be here, Usmanov may be dead and we could be under Silva MRKII and owned by Kenwrights skint relative.

For every 1 player who makes it about 50 dont especially imports from leagues like Italy who for some reason dont adapt well to England.
Yes, but for the right price - I don't think we're in the best position to be taking financial risks, like pumping millions into players whose value is declining. We have to be smart in the transfer market and cautious with financial fair play. We can't as a club just be entirely focused on the short term just because Ancelotti is here.

Only a year left on his contract. So he’d be at a discount. Good player.

@MarcelsGoat What do we make of the lad from Southampton, Hojberg?

Liked him at Bayern but hasn't kicked on for what was expected. Stats boys LOVE him.
I think I qualify as a stat boy so I'll weigh in and say he's fine. Good passer but he has a lot of games where that is all he does. Which is pretty much Gomes already. We need someone who tackles a bunch I think.

The way I see it mate we can do 1 of 2 things:

1. Sign ready proven players for now and hopefully aim to win a trophy/qualify for europe

Or

2. Sign potential wonderkids for the future and continue finishing 8th-12th.

After 25 years of failure I think its about time we start going for option 1 - even if it goes tits up atleast we had a go rather than continuing to tread water every year blowing any chance of success and folding in every derby game.

You mean like one of the top 5 midfielders in the league in that category? Because that’s what he is.

Your stat boy game needs work.

He has mate - from someone who slates people who rave about Bernard its hilarious that you continue to make out Keans been anything but dissapointing this season.

Zataraitis - an illness thats primary symptom is the raving off any player under 22 regardless of their performances whilst anyone over 27 is awful and a waste of money as they have "no resale value".
I mean I'm saying in this same discussion that I'm saying I don't rate Abraham that highly but sure, I'm only looking at age.

Hojbjerg is good at exactly that

But I'm not sure we have the financial capability to do that (considering financial fair play) - 'proven' players cost a fortune.

Wolves and Leicester are two teams that have undoubtedly recruited far, far better than us in recent years and they're not exactly going for the 'proven' players. Even looking at Liverpool many of their succesful signings haven't been on 'proven' players. They're just 3 sides who have a system that they know works, and buy players that fit into that system. While we, for the last few years, haven't had a settled system or manager - so we've ended up with a mismatch of players who fit into different systems.

Even now we're not sure if the 442 is here to stay, or if Ancelotti is just using it because it's what suits our current crop of players best.

I think we can (and should) be doing a lot better than we are, but we don't have to go out and blow a fortune on the 'ready proven players' to do it.

In fairness, it would be quite nice to actually have a good season at some point wouldn’t it? Rather than endlessly saying we will have a good season next season but never quite getting round to it?

Know what would be lovely? Starting off strong.

I'm sick of it every single season, we tend to get some winnable games (on paper) to which we barely turn up and usually draw, then we get the same old cycle where our fans say "its only early, loads of time left" etc and that time never comes.

I want us to be prepared for a change. Get 9 points on the board straight away.

We need to stop arsing about in pre-season, playing games against Austrian 7th Division teams and stupid tournaments where we play 60 minute matches. Also coasting through the games in second gear barely breaking a sweat, and swapping the entire XI around at half time with a week to go before the season starts.
