Everton Transfer Thread - Summer 2020

What difference is closed doors likely to make? I'll be honest, I think we will be ok, as there are going to be some teams, without enormous financial backing who are going to be in serious difficulty (ones that haven't had wage deferrals yet etc).

Off the top of my head, Southampton are in big trouble if the takeover doesn't happen and will have to sell to survive. If the Newcastle takeover doesnt happen, they are suddenly in massive trouble, and have next to no assets. West Ham are probably another one. There will probably be a handful of poor teams who will just get worse. Next season is going to be really interesting.

I agree in principle though. One thing Moyes did well, was take relatively discarded players and mould them into something. I actually think Ancelotti seems quite adept at that, as a small positive. I think if we had a young coach who wanted to play a specific way, it would be big trouble as we may not get those players.

This will sound odd, but what an opportunity now for Baningime, for Adeniran etc. These lads have won it all in the 23's and ultimately not been given much of a chance. They are not young lads anymore, 21 years old so physically should be able to cope with the league. They are both physically strong and this really is an opportunity for them to put a marker down. As you say, the bits I've seen of Baningime as a 19 year old are competitive with some of the lads you mention.
I can't comment on any of the financial issues that you've raised, as I've no clue about what's going to happen there.

However, I can say that this Everton squad is filled with players that don't turn up away from home, and without the pressure of a concerned home crowd to push them on (eg the 0-0 derby in 2018-19), I don't believe that they will be motivated enough to drag themselves out of the kind of slump that they're extremely prone to. The senior pros are mostly just jobbers that have already had their chance and failed at a Champions League club, which puts an enormous amount of pressure on the younger, more enthusiastic lads to carry the load.

Re: Baningime, I was impressed with what little we saw of him a couple of years ago, but there has been no appetite to include him for a long time now. In my opinion, the academy isn't fit for purpose, but then I suppose that's a whole other topic on its own.

It actually isn’t, the likes of John Fleck and John Lundstram are far outperforming their ability levels this season. Like people who said Danny Drinkwater was a top midfielder based on the title winning season.

Besic instantly becomes our worst midfielder upon returning.
Besic is a far better player than Davies, and earns a pittance compared to Schneiderlin, Delph and Sigurdsson, who don't offer any more than he would. The only difference is that no one would take them on loan because they'd be earning in excess of £100k a week to sit on the bench.

What you're saying about the likes of Lundstram, Drinkwater and Fleck is true of almost every player whose quality isn't immediately apparent. They do well in environments where they're kept well drilled, fit and motivated, and unfortunately, Everton has been a piss-takers' paradise for years. The only midfielder here who you'd spot as a tidy player straight away is Gomes.

Not sure how you get that Besic is better than Davies. Based on evidence they both appear to be quite crap.

Cant believe this is even being debated as you are spot on. Besic is not a top 10 pl midfielder but hes miles above Davies. Davies is a local lad so has been given chance after chance. He is league one level. At least Besic has a second gear, Davies cant dribble without falling over and must be the slowest 21 year old in all leagues across europe.

Its not that they look better, they ARE better. A French guy called Guy Azemar studied it... the connections between the left and right hand sides or hemispheres of the brain are faster for left handers.

Best 2 footballers of the last 40 years, Maradona and Messi? Southpaws
Best 2 amateur boxers of the last 30 years, Lomachenko and Rigondeaux? Southpaws

The list goes on...

Maradona one of the best two footballers of the last 40 years?

Baffles me why Besic never gets a go.

I don't think Davies is that slow, he just isn't fast enough to make up for the fact that he tends to be three steps out of position at all times.

Besic is one of those piss takers. He was on loan for 18 months at a Championship side and they didn’t even rate him enough to pay £3m for him. He’s been at Everton for 6 years, is nearly 28 years old and has never looked like holding down a first team place despite us having pure dog turd playing in the midfield.

Maybe he's just not good enough probably a bit of both
