Think Ferguson at Man Utd tried to buy Hirst aswel but Wednesday wouldn't let him go so he bought Cantona instead

The thing I never understood about this deal is we were effectively trying to swap James for Diaz. Within 3 months James left for free and the RS bought Diaz for 50 mil. How were Porto ever going to agree a deal like that? Basically lose out on 50 mil.

The Essien one still stings when he was at Bastia. Lyon were a top club and always in Europe at the time though.

Already mentioned in the thread but Diaz and Kudus. Was Gyokeres ever on? Seemed like we were looking at him but completely skint at the time and Blackburn wanted a decent fee upfront.

Pretty sure it was all done but Covid got in the way and in the mean time Michael Keane played himself into a new deal and we decided we really like Ben Godfrey. By the time we remembered we liked Gabriel he was already in North London.
