Pickford
Kenny - Keane - Zouma - Digne
Gomes - Gana
Dowell - Sig - Rich
DCL

- Kenny or Holgate for the liability that is Coleman.
- Walcott needs to learn he’s not undroppable
- These will sit deep if they don’t score early so might need the invention of Dowell/Bernard over the pace of Lookman. We’ll have a lot of the ball
- Again if they’re deep I can’t see Cenk getting any joy aerially nor getting in behind.

- Coleman isn't a liability. Holgate offers nothing going forward. Kenny put in one of the worst displays he has in an Everton shirt against Leicester. Ben Chilwell ripped him to shreds. I don't really want him going up against March, Knockaert, Izquierdo or Jahanbakhsh, ta very much.

- Dowell and Kenny down the right because Lookman isn't inventive? Lookman is more inventive than Dowell. He may be quick but isn't a pace merchant - his main skill is driving with the ball at speed, and having the footwork to get out of tight spaces. He's very much like Bernard in that sense so I definitely agree with either him or Bernard over Walcott, but Dowell would be a waste there (attacking and defending).

- Agree it's a toss-up between DCL and Tosun. Might be good to have DCL running them about a bit. Then again, if we're going down that route, may be better off just starting Richarlison up top because he's better than DCL and would run Dunk/Duffy ragged just as much. The one edge DCL would have would be in the air, mind.

Holgate doesn’t offer anything going forward but he’s the strongest of the 3 defensively. We shouldn’t require a full-back to help us score goals. Hence Coleman is out because he can’t defend these days.

Lookman can beat a man (when he can be arsed) but I’m talking invention more splitting the lines and finding balls in tight areas where Dowell takes the edge. No point in beating a full-back that’s almost parked on the by-line is there when crossing into those two brutes.

Richarlison is just far better on the left and is a good outlet for Pickford especially if they play with that Bruno at RB. Think he has the aerial advantage. Same with DCL over Tosun.

Coleman can defend. He's a better defender than Holgate, tbh. There's no need at all for him to be dropped. And SIlva's system requires full-backs to push high, so for someone who knows a lot about togger mate, your point of 'we shouldb't need a full-back to help score' is a bit ludicrous. Literally every good team has full-backs who provide width and an attacking threat. Pep went and spent £120m on three to improve City. Liverpool would be half the team they are without Robertson, same with Chelsea and Alonso etc.

And does Dowell really take the edge in that regard? He's never done that at all when played in our first team (I know not a massive sample). He's got a good long shot on him but offers zilch for large parts of the game. I really don't think he will be coming in for Saturday.

I agree with you on Richarlison, I'd have him wide. I just meant that if we're playing DCL up there rather than Tosun to offer more workrate/hassle, it may be worth having Richarlison there over DCL because he offers that hassle while also more of a goal threat.

On the assumption that we'll be 2 up at half time the second half should offer an opportunity for Dowell and Lookman to get some game time. These have won the last three but only scored 3 haven't they so I don't expect them to be a huge goal threat. They may sneak one from a corner with their grocks. I could see Silva going with
Pickford
Coleman - Keane - Mina - Digne
Gana - Gomes
Sigurdsson
Bernard - Tosun - Richarlisson

That should be sufficient to see these off.

I’m just talking about vs Brighton here not footie in general. They’re a very specific type of team aren’t they. I agree full-backs are vital but against these I think we can sacrifice one side for a little more solidity. I’m gonna be bloody @ing you to death if Coleman gets caught out haha. Brighton’s left wing is the only part that worries me.

Yeh Dowell probs won’t even make the squad I just think it’s a good team for his style of play. I think it’ll be the same as United but maybe Walcott dropped and a striker brought in.

Yeh I get ya mate.

I just honestly don't think there's much more needed than minor tweaks. Coleman needs a run to get his form back. If he's still playing badly in 4/5 games time then maybe it'll be time to draft Kenny back in. But until then let's stick with the bloke who is currently our captain and our best right-back.

Walcott - I agree entirely that I think he could be rotated and personally even if he was on form this wouldn't be the game that I would think would be suited for Walcott anyway. He wouldn't be able to run in behind, as there'll be little space for him, and I think Lookman suits this type of game from the start. We'll see, either way!

Not a bad side these, I like their manager who seems to organise them well.
Got a good feeling for this game though
if we can score early that'll open the game up for us and it could be a rugby score. If they sit deep and stay compact which they do very well and keeps us at bay it'll be a real tough afternoon. I think we'll win and i have a feeling we'll finally click and give them a spanking
