Mikel made sure he was in the way, I thought (at the time, haven't seen replay) he made no attempt at getting the ball. Bit pissed now though..

Agree with this 100%.

Lets not kid ourselves, against Chelsea there are going to be periods where they'll dominate possession and leave us chasing the ball. The subtle but crucial difference is that when we do have our good spells, we keep going forward and trying to add to what we have, not defend it.

Agreed. Fact is that there are 3 or 4 expensively asembled Prem outfits based in manchester and London which will more often than not have the majority of possession against us but that does not change the fact that often the best form of defence is attack. In that second half Mirallas and Barkley were very effective "defenders". Why? Because they were effective attackers !!

I had to work 5-12 shift and was gutted that i couldnt watch it.
Had a really **** day.
Swigging on a brew i reluctantly turned on the sky box.
So happy that i did.
I LOVE YOU EVERTON.

40 years ago, I attended my first & only game at Goodison & it was 1-0 over Chelsea.

My thanks to EFC for commemorating that event by replicating it! (y)

Anyone else notice after Howard's howler that he reverted to hoof balls for the remainder of the game?

I suppose Lukaku will win some of those balls, but today we simply kept giving back possession with long balls that ended in Chelsea's feet.

Anyway...overall, very happy...maybe we got a little lucky today, but we've had [Poor language removed] all for luck so far this season, so only fair if you ask me. Naismith's effort today should silence many of his critics...he scored a poachers goal and tracked back extremely well. If that's the worst we can produce on the right, I can live with it. Barry looked like he'd been in the team for years...seamless transition and he had an excellent game. Barkley gives me wood...even if he holds the ball too long at times (just re-read that...gonna leave it you sick bastards). Martinez moving Miralles up front showed me two things...Martinez absolutely knows what he is doing, and Miralles need to be up front. He'd been so 'meh' the first 3 1/2 games...as soon as he was up front, Super Kev emerged.

The back four did very well...Baines was virtually invisible going forward though. There was a moment in the game where we were on a mini break...Coleman cut in and passed across the field for Barry...Barry looked left...went forward and Baines never arrived for the overlap...was a moment in the game that stuck with me, as Baines rarely got forward.

We've deserved much better in terms of results so far...good/fair result today.

WHAT!!?? We only beat Chelsea 1-0!!?? Martinez out!!
I hope that all the doom and gloomers and the naysayers and whining negative Nellies might have the good grace to STFU!! Or better still, admit that maybe there's something going on at our club that is positive and hopeful.
Enjoy the delights of victory my friends.

Eggs he was awful lid! Loads have jumped on the bandwagon about him lately but they're in the right tonight.

...we'll have to agree to disagree, but that's what opinion is all about. Thought Osman had a decent game and I do like him. Saying that, I'm sure that when everybody is fit he will struggle for game time. One thing becoming clear is that RM likes that type of player, the ones that have confidence in their own ability to try and keep possession. I was convinced he would withdraw Barklay to sure things up, but he persisted because he was another who was getting the ball down and looking to pass. Sign of things to come, although Distin and Howard thinking they are Glen Hoddle is a bit scary.

had tickets but fate meant I couldn't travel this week but watching from afar at 1 a.m. and listening to the Old Lady rock warmed the cockles. Big kudos to the crowd, that was mighty. One can only imagine what Barry must have thought knowing 'that' was behind him and now he's part of it, no wonder he could barely contain his happiness walking off the pitch at the end of the game
