Because on the off-chance we find a regular 20 goal a season striker (there are usually 3-4 of these a season in the Premier League - there have been seasons where there's NONE), there is ZERO chance we'll find 2 of them (there's been 1 season in the last decade where 1 team had more than 1 20 goal a season striker), and we need more than one striker in the squad.

It depends what you term a striker, is Salah a striker? Mane? Firmino? Sterling? Aguero? Mahrez? Son? Kane.

The concept of a striker has changed hugely as has the burden of goal scoring.

If you want my opinion, DCL isn’t good enough as a potential striker, inside forward or part of a three.

I suspect of the three or four a season they are in the top 3-4 teams, so if we have ambitions of that I want apologies for wanting a 20 goal a season striker. WE also need better back up imho.

Gueye was excellent all game, even after the yellow which was well taken. Pickford was good and I don’t cringe when it’s passed to him like previous keepers. Wings didn’t work as palace forced the wingers inside and their game plan worked on the whole which stifled our play. Second half did bring our attackers into it more and the subs speak for themselves.

Still questions defensively though with Palace getting a few decent chances and there being a few moments when the defense seemed to fall asleep but Keane continues to improve.

Most of those that you mentioned there (in fact all but 3 of them) have never scored 20 league goals in a season - which is the usual measure when you're talking about a 20 goal striker - otherwise there's too much variation based on games played.

But really all that's irrelevant, because your statement wasn't "DCL isn't good enough to be our long term solution up front", it was "DCL definitely no goals today then" - which was followed by us scoring 2, including 1 by DCL himself.

THAT'S why you shouldn't give up your day job ;)

It wasn't the greatest of games and I thought Palace worked hard with their physicality in the first half making it hard for us.

Second half was better and we had some great movement in the final third but struggled to create anything worthy of a decent chance. The game changed when we went 4 up top but what worries me is we had to go 4 up top to see off Crystal Palace. We need to be capable of putting them away earlier on and not in the 87th.

Wouldn't Zaha anywhere near the club, horrible little worm that he is. It's not even 'ruthless winner' way like a Costa or Ramos that you can respect even if you dislike seeing it, more like a Mirallas in the sense that he's a petulant little girl who whinges and takes no responsibility except when there's glory to be had.

Sniff it you loser.

Lots of positives from today. We won, scored two, clean sheet, two forwards scored, manager made positive decisions. Palace are a good litmus test for teams who want to progress. They are well coached and don't give you anything for free. I had hoped we might have put on a display today but 2-0 is a good result. That is three league wins on the trot and should be celebrated.
We are moving forward.

Well that was a game with something for everyone. The DCL haters had their 5 minutes of fume before he ruined it for them and scored. The Lookman fans were rewarded with a great cross for DCL to score, and the Tosun fans were rewarded for their patience by a well taken goal. An excellent debut by Gomes, as if he's been playing for us for months. Great penalty save by Pickford (although a more dubious penalty decision has never been made). Man of the match without question was Idrissa Gana Gueye, masterful performance.

Palace are very good at falling over and winning cheap free kicks.

Overall a good performance. A better one next week please Blues :celebrate:

Gone for pickford purely for the pen save, could have been a heads down moment.
Thought the ref was very poor today.

Keane and Kurt had a good game as did gana, gomes looked good considering how long it's been since he played. Bad day for our Brazilians. Silva won the match with the changes.

If the second goal had not gone in I would have had to give it to Pickford for either ensuring we gained one point if it had stayed scoreless or gaining all threea points due to the penno save.

But there was a second so I can happily nominate Gana......he was absolutely suoerb ;)
