I think we can all agree that nobody can be too downbeat on losing to the probable title winners, it was the lack of effort to try and win the game that annoyed me.

In a game that was crying out for pace he brought Naismith on. Our midfield then had Naismith, Barry, Cleverly and McCarthy in it. Imagine having a double substitution of Deulofeu and Mirallas. It would have got the crowd up, and who knows what might have happened?

For me his substations yesterday were too Moyes like. Where the brave Martinez has gone, I don't know.

Substations? You mean we needed more electric pace? :p

Yes, when he arrived his attitude toward substitutions was a breath of fresh air.

I liked Moyes but his subs frustrated me.

The main diffrence between the sides yesterday was passing, theirs was awesome, our was horrendous. Loads of wayward passes or under hit. We lost the ball over and over. We had like 3 touches in their box they had double figures. We worked hard to stop them but losing the ball after 4-5 passes didn't help

Very true, the amount of unforced errors when in possession really hurt the team and allowed a better team to capitalise on the lack of balance.

It isn't that we were bad, we weren't, they were just better. We struggled to get into their box often enough to trouble them.

Just a thought. I don't know why we booed Sterling. Surely we could've made our point by cheering him, if you think about it.

I would say the Browning substitution was a brave one.
Last year he would of moved Barry left back and put Osman on. In hidsight Browning looked uncomfortable and nervous at left back but I would never have a go at the manager for bringing a kid on

Although I agree with you on the other subs, I think everyone at the time wanted a double sub of Mirallas and Deulofeu to try and stretch the game a bit, maybe on 70 minutes and just go blow for blow with them.

Browning was a good sub in the end. I thought at the time after seeing Galloway getting done over and over again that I would have preferred Barry at left back, but to his credit browning completely shut out the left flank for them. I don't think he got beaten one on one all game.

The lad will be a great CB I think.

I actually thought browning was the correct choice at the time.
Martinez was concerned with the pace on the wings I think and can you imagine Barry in a foot race with Navas.
just one of those days I think when you catch a quality team when all there players are in good form and confident

See your point, although I think it was a fairly conservative substitution, really. Barry was tasked with handling Silva. Moving him to LB and bringing Osman or Besic into the game would have been a big tactical shift and Martinez chose not to do it. I thought at the time Besic might've done a good job, considering how he did against Messi in a similar role at the WC, but it wasn't to be. Maybe it had something to do with his fitness.

I don't think we were terrible yesterday by any means but I do think Martinez got his tactics wrong. We played very narrow throughout, which is futile when your opposition are technically superior. We ended up looking like a team trying to snatch a draw rather than going for a win.
