This is a huge game, one of the biggest games in years. I am surprised some fans believe the best players will be rested.

Everton's biggest chance to qualify for Europa League is by winning a cup and it's been so long, too long.

It will be difficult as Man United are in a good run of form but we can definitely beat them. Hopefully Ancelotti inspires the team to another great win.

Olsen
Coleman Holgate Keane Godfrey
Doucoure Davies Gomes
James DCL Richarlison

Is the team I would pick, if all available.

Alternatively, I would be very ok with Iwobi playing right and James as the advanced central midfielder with probably Gomes missing out. If James is not fit then don't rush him back. Sigurddson would start in that case.

I would look to give DCL, Keane and Doucoure a rest in one of the two game over next weekend. James will probably only be able to start one of those games too. I expect Pickford to play in the league.

It would feel so harsh to drop Iwobi after his performances recently. Mina also was strong against Arsenal.

I would like to see James start on the bench and brought back slowly, rather than rushed before he is ready and maybe get injured again.

Not really dropped, we need rotation over the next fortnight. We will run out of legs if we play the same team every game. I usually hate rotation, but we need the full squad and as few injuries as possible. Saturday evening, Wednesday night, Saturday night, Monday night, Friday afternoon is tough for any squad.

James will start at most 2 of the 4 games in the 9 period, so we need to manage him. If he hasn't fully recovered yet then absolutely I would leave him out or on the bench and start him on Boxing Day.

Agree, in the most part...
The difficult bit is Davies or Gomes...
I would prefer someone else , but who?
Davies before Gomes but it Hobson’s choice.
Holgate has been a shout... I just think that’s the one position that stymies us at the moment, under this system, with the players available.
If it's one of the 2 then deffo Davies over Gomes for me. He's been the better of the 2 recently.

I would also be inclined to start without James, and use him later if required. There may well be extra time here, and better to see how things go and bring him on later as I see it.

Outside of that, I'm not tempted to make any changes really, and start Davies again, but putting Holgate in midfield and bringing Coleman back is a valid argument I think, and one I wouldn't be opposed to either.

We have to prioritise this over the Sheffield game for sure.

I'm confident based on recent form, but we have to learn lessons from the last time.

I think it goes straight to pens mate if it's a draw at full time.

A quick check suggests that winning the League Cup only comes with a ticket to Europa Conference now. That said, both sides need a trophy and I'd be surprised to see a ton of rotation from either.

Going to miss Allan in this one with their midfield.

United have such strong squad depth when you look at it-hope they rest Fernandes.
They are in great form but are prone to throw in a horrific performance now and again.

We have to go with our strongest side here, winning a cup would be huge for us.

Even the Europa Conference League would be a good step forward. The club needs to be playing European Football regularly at any level.

I agree though, I think both managers will see this as a big opportunity to improve their reputations with the fans and treat the game seriously.

Two teams coming into form at the same time and both managers eager to get their hands on some silverware. In fairness to UTD they have some decent players who can cause any team problems on the day.

Everton can win this if they stick to the Carlo's plan and not go asleep or become complacent in midfield. If we play the way we played in the last three games and maybe bring Coleman and James back into the squad for the bit of extra flare and creativity, I think we can hit them early for a couple of goals.

Keep feeding DCL with quality balls into the box and we can win this one and even go on to lifting some sliver-ware.

A loss on Wednesday could ruin Christmas for everyone and could see the mother in law getting dropped kicked into next week :bye:

Only changes I would make is James for Siggurdsson.

Would rest a good 5-6 against Sheff Utd though otherwise a good few hammies will be going pop over the coming weeks.
