One thing that really annoys me too more than anything is bad passing. Professional footballers not being able to string a few passes together always gets my goat.

Iwobie more so than anyone needs to learn how to stop spooning the ball whenever he gets into a good position. It's more frustrating than watching a player play awfully because he does really well sometimes and you are up on your feet cheering him and the team on and then BOING- he spoons it into nowhere as you howl falling back down onto the couch.

I think it isn't so much lack of ability but a lack of composure at this level but its very difficult to watch week in week out! Both dom (especially) and Richie are just not getting any service from the midfield.

spot on! In the thread asking the question what is the problem... I gave passing as the issue.. we lose balls in bad areas all the time making defending for 90 mins impossible.. bad passing is like a red flag to a bull for me.
At this level I expect players to be passing to teammates to take in their stride.. not behind them causing them to stop and all momentum broken on attack. But that expectation is a pipe dream for more than half the side. I’ll just take a pass to a teammate in space as the minimum surely.

just answered Eggs using Iwobi as the example top of a pro not able to do what’s on his job description.. we are not asking for Messi .. but the amount he gets horrendously wrong i can’t get my head around.

Anyway. Vent done. Sheffield Utd coming and a chance to show what they are being paid for

Honestly mate I kept quiet but it still bugged me cos who wants to be a downer after a win. I wasn’t cheerful after Chelsea... woke up a little with Leicester with a bit of a better performance and obviously happy we beat a rubbish Arsenal by playing well for 20 mins in the first half. Did you enjoy the performance though?

to add.. take iwobi.. all of a sudden he is good.. sorry.. never jumped on that gravy train. He’s the epitome of what I’m talking about.. how does a winger paid what he does have the ability of a non professional when crossing a ball.:Blink:

...and that’s fair enough, there’s often a reaction after a defeat that isn’t consistent with other posts. I’m not being critical, it’s human nature but some folk have view regardless of winning or losing.

indeed, I think this trait is very important in managers/DoF as they need to back their judgement in selecting and buying/selling. I’m of a view the best will sell players when their stock is highest if they don’t trust their performance or fragility (Pickford, Keane & McCarthy are 3 examples for me).

Wenger and Ferguson were especially good at this... selling on a high when it seemed all to the world it didn’t make sense... but the drop in performance can be rapid at a certain stage ..

Ancelotti also said that he was happy with the intensity and commitment but I do not agree with this.

This was the biggest problem in my view, not the lack of quality players. There was no pressing and no energy from any Everton player, at any point. Was this deliberate from Ancelotti, to stand off them? Maybe so.

Sadly, it did not work and another big game passes by.
There wasn't a ton of pressing because we don't have the players to press United and not get shredded. I mean go watch the Leeds game back and see what happens to teams that do that.

There is a half way house between not pressing at all and what Leeds do.
That still leaves us too exposed. Aggression wise Carlo got it right. What he didn't get right was either the formation or the organization as they had way too much joy through the middle, but I think if you're expecting us to go out and try and overrun United with Sigurdsson and Gomes on the pitch you're mistaken about what we're capable of.

I am not sure, the team completely sat off them for the most part. Whether that was by instruction or just something the players decided to do, I do not know. I am not sure which would be worse.

I would not expect a high press or high intensity as you are right, this would leave the team exposed, but an amount of organised pressure (from certain players or ideally as a collective) would have made United less comfortable than they were, certainly in the first half and would have forced more mistakes.

It was tactical. We aren't a pressing team.

I just think the issue was leaving space in midfield and not having players who can work the ball through their press in midfield. It isn't really an intensity or effort issue for me. Just Sigurdsson, Doucoure, Gomes and Davies not being great players.

Spot on. Passing to cause the player to stop is irritating as hell. Nobody should be overhitting a cross by 5 yards. Not like they do much else all week is it?

Because fans have differing opinions on who has performed well or not
Both Iwobi and he were instrumental in losing the ball in the last third to pile the pressure back on a midfield two that couldn't cope, it was reminiscent of a Koeman style team after he bought all those #10's and put them in one team. The defenders rode their luck last night and still lost!
