Team Rating:
Spirit 8
Effort 8
Energy 7 (commendable as played many games within short period)
Effectiveness 4

PLAYERS RATINGS:

Olsen 8 - decent saves, minor fumbles

Coleman 6 - prone to let in crosses from left in first half

Mina 7.5 - solid, Oscar worthy performance for choke fall

Keane 8 - solid as usual

Godfrey 8.5 - glimpses of future captain demeanor (have that Rio Ferdinand look) , hardworking and gutsy,. Dishearteningly last minute lapses in concentration allowed Cavani to score

Gomes 5 - loses his teeth since injury, no more adventurous and front probing, in hiding and lacks confident (his old self in Barcelona)

Doucoure 7.5 - sporadic good fwd runs and defences but not enough

Iwobi 6 - didn't cope well with the up tempo and rushed on passes which strayed, but continued to work hard

Sidgursson 9 - motm, played his heart out and could have knicked it with the header

Richarlison 7 - played on three quarter throttle, could have let fly on the cut in in second half, need find his heart (seem to feel dejected as he trails in his goal ambition of 20 league goals)

DCL 8 - lacked services

Bernard 5 - aside from drawing the free kick, did too little

Davies 4 - Never dare to turn and have a run at defence , lack confidence and scared to make mistakes, gutless (had the skills but not the heart)

Tosun 3 - too rusty without game time

Gordon "9" - could have been, loves to drive at opponent and have the ability to put in crosses. "3" for having perhaps bad-mouthed Carlos for a starting place and now seem benched until he behaves

So, let me get this right, you gave Sigurdsson 9 out of 10?

Honestly, if we had at least 1 ref decision going our way - mostly the choke on yerry, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Yeah, we weren't dazzling, but we did decently enough for the game to at least get to pens. Unfortunately, that sandwiching of Richarlison by Fernandes ruined even that chance for us as we played with 10v11 for the rest of the game.

And aside from that, aside from this Everton game, I've no idea what it takes for refs to card a united player. Fernandes should've missed at 3-4 games for red cards this season alone. But what can you do, I've said it right after the game vs L'pool - we're not getting any decision in our favor anymore this season. Seems that it takes a flat out murder to give a red card to someone we're playing against.

edit: and also, our team is starting to look like Carlo's just flogging the dead horse given that we've no rotation options whatsoever.

hope for hte best on saturday I guess.

Here I disagree, some of our younger players could be given chances especially last night. Our midfield was literally non existent. Per Carlo we defended well, for me that was nonsense thanks to Olsen we did not go 2/3 down in the first 20 minutes. Still say putting Coleman in place of Holgate messed things up it meant Keane had more to do covering for Coleman. Doucoure was our best in midfield no question. Holgate should have been on not Davies and Gordon not Bernard. Even perhaps throw Kenny on late to go at them.

I wouldn’t have given anyone more than a 5.

Why are we paying him then if no defeat can ever be put at his door? Brian Clough won European Cups with players no one else initially rated or wanted. He moulded them into champions through his tactical genius and his motivational skills. Is it not part of Ancellotti's job to make better from what he's got without continually accepting that the only path to improvement is via the transfer market.
I know what your saying mate, I'm just saying it takes time, don't get me wrong do I think we could have a done a lot better in certain games? Of course I do, but it wasn't until the RS signed VVD that they started to improve and City were pretty average during Guardiola's first season. As I said the difference between having average players then or even 10 years ago and now, is those players would put in 100%. Now you have average players on huge amounts, so they don't really have any incentive to try.

....yep, he’s terrific and still plays like the game matters at this stage of his career. I know we were poor and looked knackered but I thought United were very good.

Yeah, he's really terrific...

How he didn't get a red card for this is mystifying. If the ref did not see it, surely one of the two linesmen/assistants should have done...

He's a good player, but he's a rat!

Honestly not one to vent often and prefer to go dark.. but has to be said...

half our team who we admit are not good enough... but why? They are paid more in a week than most earn in a year. They have been learning their trade for 4 to 6 hours a day for more than 10 years putting them far beyond the 10000 hours to become world class. By all measures they are world class to be paid what they are.

Yet.... they don’t move into space.. don’t make the simplest of passes at times to progress forward reverting to going backwards and unable to keep possession under any form of pressure. If I was as bad at my job I would be booted before even seeing through my probation period.

I don’t care how much better the other team is.. the shocking inability to hold the ball and pass to a team mate beyond one or two passes boggles my mind and has been the biggest form of frustration with Everton predating the Moyes years..he got it right for a few of them but as soon as we saw the big lights of the big teams he also forgot how to play and went into our shells. This isn’t just an issue with a few but with many in our side.

It’s almost like we play in fear and everything just shuts down. Everything the players have learnt throughout their careers disappears in the headlights of the opposition. Disheartening to say the least.

....true, but its often what makes these players what they are. They are tough, they are street footballers, they are street fighters, they are not scared of the game, they are not scared of the opposition. Winning is important.

...few complaints on those scores when we beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester.

One thing that really annoys me too more than anything is bad passing. Professional footballers not being able to string a few passes together always gets my goat.

Iwobie more so than anyone needs to learn how to stop spooning the ball whenever he gets into a good position. It's more frustrating than watching a player play awfully because he does really well sometimes and you are up on your feet cheering him and the team on and then BOING- he spoons it into nowhere as you howl falling back down onto the couch.

I think it isn't so much lack of ability but a lack of composure at this level but its very difficult to watch week in week out! Both dom (especially) and Richie are just not getting any service from the midfield.

And they grab opposition players by the throat. Commendable indeed... NOT!

Brought to mind this, and the Chelski player also escaped any kind of card...

Honestly mate I kept quiet but it still bugged me cos who wants to be a downer after a win. I wasn’t cheerful after Chelsea... woke up a little with Leicester with a bit of a better performance and obviously happy we beat a rubbish Arsenal by playing well for 20 mins in the first half. Did you enjoy the performance though?

to add.. take iwobi.. all of a sudden he is good.. sorry.. never jumped on that gravy train. He’s the epitome of what I’m talking about.. how does a winger paid what he does have the ability of a non professional when crossing a ball.:Blink:
