Two things evident, firstly the difference in quality and depth of the squad is huge, to have a very competitive 11 out on the pitch after 9 changes and be able to introduce Rashford and Martial off the bench is a luxury we’re far from having.

Secondly, it’s no coincidence that teams like United and pains me to say it the RS, consistently get late winners and come from behind, it’s an elite winning mentality we just don’t have. We’re fragile at times and sometimes beaten before we start, will take Carlo a while to change that but he’s the right man to do so.

Didn't see the game but just caught the highlights on YouTube. I know it's hard to judge by ten minutes worth of video but Gylfi Sigurdsson and Ben Godfrey appeared to have a decent game, Robin Olsen made a few blocks without any drama, and we seem to create some chances and kept fighting until the final whistle. Although I'm disappointed about getting beat, I'm not really disheartened by what I saw, and now look forward to the Sheffield Utd game.

Going to give Gylfi Sigurdsson MotM based on the highlights.

....beating Chelsea, Arsenal and Leicester without our regular full-backs and arguably our most creative players in Digne and Rodriguez suggests there is a bit of depth in the squad as does our position in the league.

It was a poor performance last night against a side who are particularly potent away from home. Maguire has twice this season played as well as anybody in nullifying DCL and for once we carried no threat in the final third. I’d give United lots of credit.

Whilst Sigurdsson is getting many plaudits for his display, his delivery from crosses into the box was ordinary as was his header from our only realistic chance. Being busy isn’t the same as being effective. We were still very much in the game with 15mins to go and I wonder if Ancelotti could’ve been braver with his substitutions and gone for it.

We wouldn’t have won it anyway so I’m NEA.

we need Rodriguez back ASAP and to try and shift some deadwood In January and bring some better quality in.

Iwobi gets a stay of execution until the end of season as been ok recently, same for Gylfi but preferably as squad players.

The likes of Davies, Gomes and Bernard should never set foot on Goodison Park again.

An absolute turd of a match but I'm NEA. The lads looked proper knackered, Richy looks like he's done 10 rounds with Tyson and the squad is still bare bones.

Don't let it ruin the next few days, it's Christmas! Have a great one everyone , stay healthy and let's look forward to a 2021 with Carlo, new stadium staying and full crowds too if we are lucky!

I think as a few have said, it was a game that just showed the difference in squad depth. We just don’t have enough quality deep in the squad to compete with the perennial front runners - it also means that we seem to head into games with a near tactical rigidness that means if Plan A doesn’t work, we can’t switch to B with ease. Apart from Richy and Rodriguez i don’t think we have anyone that can produce a moment of game changing brilliance either.

A few little bits in that game where if they came off, it would be a different story - Henderson’s absolutely class save from Siggurdsson for example.

Why are you so confident that the money will be there? I mean, how much will it cost to 'fix' us?

The whole process is a long one and going to take more than two windows.

However, given how the league is shaping up, plus the fixtures to catch up on, then there's clearly a chance this year.

Moshiri has backed Ancelotti so far. I'm sure that if there was a deal to be done next month then he would provide the funds.

It's on Brands and his team to find those deals and make them happen. We have glaring holes in the squad and unless they're fixed it'll keep stalling our progress, which in turn makes it more likely we have to sell our better players and it ends up being a case of two steps forward and one step back.

We were knackered though, that's where the depth issue comes into it, Eggs. They were completely out on their feet.

Mentality is definitely an issue. However I wouldn’t say trying to compete was a problem? Out of possession our midfield closed down but got out manoeuvred by better players.

The players who bottled it weren’t dossers - they just couldn’t keep their heads at crucial times. We were outplayed for most of that game but there was a handful of moments when we were on the cusp of a big chance, but a player couldn’t make a three yard pass. Not sure how we can remedy that?

We need a better squad but we also need stronger characters. In the first 20 minutes we were terrified of them. Every time Pogba comes up against us he gets the freedom of the pitch. We didnt play anywhere near well enough and got what we deserved. Another good chance thrown away.

I mean I think Carlo did things wrong tonight but not trying to go toe to toe with the team we had available is not one of those things.

It really wasn't a rollover. We didn't deserve to be close. We only stayed in that game because we really wanted it.

Ancelotti also said that he was happy with the intensity and commitment but I do not agree with this.

This was the biggest problem in my view, not the lack of quality players. There was no pressing and no energy from any Everton player, at any point. Was this deliberate from Ancelotti, to stand off them? Maybe so.

Sadly, it did not work and another big game passes by.
