They were just better than us. We tried. It wasn't a lack of courage. In fact if we really didn't care we'd have gotten smoked the way we played. Effort alone kept it within reason.

Maybe not effort but absolutely mentality. We sat off, we didnt tackle, we didnt compete physically and we didnt move the ball forward quickly. Lots of players absolutely bottled it out there. It was just standard everton, weak, fragile and lacking in belief.

There's a reason we don't get any success and that won't change while people within the club accept rollovers like that tonight. There would be a lengthy inquest across the media if United played like that. With Everton, its just swept away and we move onto the next game.

26 years, an utter embarrassment

I thought we were woeful tonight. Especially our decision making in the final third. Unfortunately, these are the kind of performances our red friends laugh at us for. I can only hope Carlo can drive this loser mentality out of the club because it's absolutely pathetic.

I mean I think Carlo did things wrong tonight but not trying to go toe to toe with the team we had available is not one of those things.

It really wasn't a rollover. We didn't deserve to be close. We only stayed in that game because we really wanted it.

A bridge too far as I suspected.

You can't win game after game against top 6 opposition with Iwobi, Gomes, Sigurdsson etc. And then richarlison has to go off. Injuries have killed us. It's not really anyone's fault.

We've done well to win the games we have. If we were to lose one, it's probably best it was this one as we were getting beat in the next round anyway. This trophy will be going to Manchester.

We're a different team without James and Digne. Our attacking threat is reduced by 75%. To lose Allan on top of that is horrendous, never mind anyone else.

Basically this

We aren't amazing when we win 3 or 4 and we aren't utter crap when we lose a game

We are a squad with more work to be done

Itd be nice if we could win something or do something special whilst we are in the middle of that process, but as you say the norm is not to win too many with some of the options we have

Gutted but already focused on seeing if we can grind a win out against Sheffield Utd

Dude it was just one game. This is Carlos first cup run with the blues.
Unfortunately Dude in a cup competition lose one match and you can't have another go. Better to look at it as being one competition (of only 3) lost.
By the way, this was carlo's second attempt at cup success -- the other one went well too.......

I don't think you can blame Carlo, we're simply recovering from the awful signings made from 2016 to 2018. Liverpool were incredibly lucky not to get any serious injuries last season without Mane, Salah and VVD they woundn't have won the league. The problem is when they going gets tough we have too many average players who fall apart and nobody to really carry them. In the Moyes era our players had heart, they worked as a unit, nowadays our average players have no passion, so when we're put under pressure we fall apart. Anyway it's been an awful 2020, have a great Christmas and New Year fellow blue boys.
Why are we paying him then if no defeat can ever be put at his door? Brian Clough won European Cups with players no one else initially rated or wanted. He moulded them into champions through his tactical genius and his motivational skills. Is it not part of Ancellotti's job to make better from what he's got without continually accepting that the only path to improvement is via the transfer market.

Unfortunately, Carlo thought we played very well :(

That early season "seven game" streak, which was a hugely exaggerated achievement anyway as we played some truly awful lower league teams in there, really flattered us. Really back down to earth tonight. Dominated at home from start to finish for the second time in two months by a bang average United side. Embarrassing.

Defo. The aim of my post was not to single Tom out for criticism. I spent most of the match swearing at the extensive array of poor passes from Gomes, Siggurdson, Iwobi, Bernard etc. That moment of Tom's literally made me laugh out loud but he didn't actually give it directly to a Utd player and help set up a counter attack.

Yeah appreciate that mate. Not necessarily you, but some people give Tom a torrid time and as much as he isn’t up to standard, there are others who really let us down even though they should be stepping up and making themselves counted.

dont know if the rest of the team are playing bad to make Gylfi look good or Gylfi looks good an the rest are rubbish

Mentality is definitely an issue. However I wouldn’t say trying to compete was a problem? Out of possession our midfield closed down but got out manoeuvred by better players.

The players who bottled it weren’t dossers - they just couldn’t keep their heads at crucial times. We were outplayed for most of that game but there was a handful of moments when we were on the cusp of a big chance, but a player couldn’t make a three yard pass. Not sure how we can remedy that?

This team was clearly checked out for the holidays. What bothers me most is Man U played just as bad today, imo and we couldn't dig deep and claw our way to a win. It would have been nice to have a shot at some hardware but whatever, this team still has a way to go until we can truly content for some silver. We have zero depth, like some said above, look at our subs vs theirs. Sickening when you compare the two. I trust in Carlo and has plan for this club, but like I said, for how poorly Man U played, it would have been nice to get a win. Merry Christmas. UTFT.
