Probably unpopular opinion, but I cant get that excited over a league cup game. Would have preferred putting out our b team and focus on the Prem and a top 4 finish.

The amount of people on here who go from the greatest highs to the lowest of lows when we win and lose is crazy... What happened to a rational response. Some need to step away for a day or two when we lose and take stock. It takes time and Ancelotti seems to be making headway. Two or three more windows and we will be a hell of a side I reckon.

....I imagine it’s because Coleman is a superior RB to Holgate. I have no issues with that selection, indeed I predicted it and would’ve made it myself.

The problems last night were not particularly with the back four. Whilst Keane looked more shaky than he has for a long time I thought Mina was arguably our best player and Godfrey was as solid as usual. We started on the back foot and couldn’t get any impetus. We look a different team when we don’t play with tempo and for once we didn’t carry threat.

I see Sigurdsson is winning the poll, he was busy and played like it mattered but he’s not effectively influencing matches like a no10 should. His delivery into the box was very ordinary and he doesn’t look like scoring the vital goals you need from your very best players.

Played our 4th game against the 4th good team in 12ish days and now the worst team going

Possibly because Holgate isn’t a fullback (albeit has done well), Coleman offers an attacking dimension too and he is our captain and we do lack leaders.
Basically us losing tonight was not due to Coleman replacing holgate and I thought he was one of our better players.

I'm the same. An old arse's discriminatory opinion on an unwanted trophy from the sixties.
We're destined never to win it in any case. We can't even quote the old mantra of having a day out, this season in any case. And don't forget, we've sneered at a club very close to us for winning it.

Olsen 8 - decent saves, minor fumbles

Coleman 6 - prone to let in crosses from left in first half

Mina 7.5 - solid, Oscar worthy performance for choke fall

Keane 8 - solid as usual

Godfrey 8.5 - glimpses of future captain demeanor (have that Rio Ferdinand look) , hardworking and gutsy,. Dishearteningly last minute lapses in concentration allowed Cavani to score

Gomes 5 - loses his teeth since injury, no more adventurous and front probing, in hiding and lacks confident (his old self in Barcelona)

Doucoure 7.5 - sporadic good fwd runs and defences but not enough

Iwobi 6 - didn't cope well with the up tempo and rushed on passes which strayed, but continued to work hard

Sidgursson 9 - motm, played his heart out and could have knicked it with the header

Richarlison 7 - played on three quarter throttle, could have let fly on the cut in in second half, need find his heart (seem to feel dejected as he trails in his goal ambition of 20 league goals)

DCL 8 - lacked services

Bernard 5 - aside from drawing the free kick, did too little

Davies 4 - Never dare to turn and have a run at defence , lack confidence and scared to make mistakes, gutless (had the skills but not the heart)

Tosun 3 - too rusty without game time

Gordon "9" - could have been, loves to drive at opponent and have the ability to put in crosses. "3" for having perhaps bad-mouthed Carlos for a starting place and now seem benched until he behaves
