Donovan has hardly been faced with defences that he would face in the prem though, you can't take anything he does in MLS and equate it to what he would face in EPL.

Was fearing the worst when I seen the line up,and indeed it happened in the first 45.But the mercenarys failed to take thier chances ,after a few stern words and a change to two up top the blues did what they can do.Got right in thier faces ,lets face it City just were not up for the scrap. Well done Anichebe thought the lad did a good job ,well done Ossy who did fk all really till the goal.A good team effort for an excellent second half . Mancini at the end in inerview looked like a beaten man. O I love these happy Mondays.

Arteta deserves his salary because he is one of the very few players on our team who can receive, control and distribute a ball under pressure. I think he's underestimated, without him in the team our pass completion goes to ****.

Great 2nd half performance big games for big vic, ossie and heitingas best game this season.
Arteta was good in the 2nd half while in the middle.

Of course. I definitely know that, I was responding to the out of the blue reference and comment "only runs in a straight line really fast" bit - which is false. But still, a goal is a goal (and to put in a slight plug, MLS has come further than most think, it's not like tons are pounding them in with ease) and he DID face defenses in the prem and did more than run in a straight line really fast.

But that's neither here nor there - back to Arteta, I should have put in my original post "doesn't deserve his salary right NOW". That's my bad as people reacted negatively to a comment I meant only for the present and not as a sweeping generalization. I hope he gets some rest during the summer and comes back golden and ready to play. Cause he'll still be here, and we'll still expect a lot of him. I'm sure he'll deliver, he might just be having one of those off years that players will have from time to time. No one except 0.0001% of the professional populace is fantastic year after year. And when he's on, he's pretty darn brilliant.

How many expensive strikers do they currently have?

This.

As I said Kay, I'm all for constructive criticism, but comments like 'lame duck' after a performance like the one against City is ridiculous and tells me you either have higher expectations for him compared to other players, or you don't know what Arteta is about. His style, so to speak. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I know you've only recently started following Everton.

Arteta gives us control and composure, and he does it well. He makes himself available, shows for possession and gets us on the front foot, passing through midfield instead of the hit and hope ****e that is so painful to watch. Things like this should be taken into account when judging a player, especially a centre midfielder. If it was such an easy thing to do then we wouldn't have to change our style every time he's injured or unavailable for selection.

His form hasn't been bad of late, that's my main problem with your post. He was playing well before he got injured, and has done a solid job in the last two games. Not outstanding by any means, but he's just come back from a bad injury, he's going to be a little rusty, that's only natural.

As for his salary, I could care less to be honest, he's earned that during the years of service he's given us, the performances he's put in and the loyalty he's shown us during his time here. When I look at the wages being paid throughout Europe it's probably a fair reflection of his quality. The better players you have, you more you have to pay them, that's Football. Fellaini will want big money, Pienaar wanted something in and around that range, it is what it is really.

The Donovan comment was a light hearted jab really, nothing more.

Er what? I wasn't even comparing him to Landon - they are totally different players with different favored positions, and it's unfair for you to go there as I never even mentioned him in my post. Notice I heap praise on Osman, who has played better than Arteta this season imo.

I know he has been amazing in the past, but this season Arteta has yet to regain form. You cannot say that he has based on this past weekend's game. Based on his form, he shouldn't be earning his salary NOW, but I understand his quality and his skill - I've seen replays from previous seasons thanks to Brownie - and it could always come back. All I'm commenting on is Arteta is STILL off. And that worries me going into next year. Am I ****ging him off and calling for his head, no. I'm just saying his continued lack of form is freaking me out.

(Oh, and that guy that supposedly only runs in a straight line just scored again this past weekend. 4 goals in 3 games, and frankly, could have been 5, but hey, guess we don't need those.)

EDIT: That got asterisked???? Wow. Different language we have.

You **** Kay20.

Was out of town attending the Kentucky Derby this weekend so sadly had to miss one of the best games of the year (live at least). Watched the reply but already knew the outcome which detracted from the experience. However, what a game and what a crowd!

Fair enough. I think you're taking my words far too literally with lame duck - it was my light hearted jab as well. Not a sweeping "he sucks!" phrase (I'm much more negative about Bily to be honest).

And we'll have to agree to disagree about his form. Seeing videos of what he's capable of, I DO hold him to a higher standard - he's our top paid player on the team, and he is close enough to the Spanish national team he can taste it, he's not your average pro. He's incredibly talented. So, I don't think he's playing up to his abilities, and it's been an off year for him. BUT, again, he's amazing when he's on, and I hope he's on as early as next week. I'm not ready to write him off, the summer should do wonders for him, I think he'll be fine in the Fall when we get re-started.

Another thread has reported the full time bust up thus;

Kolorov elbowed Seamus as they were leaving the pitch, to which Seamus reacted angrily. A few of our players then got involved. Brian Kidd tried to act as peace maker, as did Neville at first, but then Mancini made a comment to Phil which made him blow his top. Don't know exactly what was said, but Mancini is well known for his snidey little comments.

Now for the best bit.....Lescott tried to get in between Seamus and Kolorov to calm things down, and Seamus lashed out at him as well. Someone then told Seamus that Joleon was ok, and was a made, to which Seamus replied "He ain't my f***ing mate!"

Hahaha...go ed Seamus

This is from the Blue Room. Its also alleged that Neville flashed his badge at the ****tee supporters who were well narked.

Well done lad, even if it was more a Manure type of thing.

Ha ha thats absolute quality, even if its not true its still ace!

When he's paired w/ Fellani I don't think its a good partnership as Fellani bosses the midfield and I'm not sure if Arteta knows his role in the squad when he's paired with him. Also also after his knee injuries he doesn't challenge tacklers anymore. He used to be by far the most fouled player in the prem. Now I can't remember the last time Arteta was fouled twice in one match. Granted this might be a good thing, he's getting up there in age and he may be 1 more serious leg injury from becoming Michael Owen.
