Yes, it is typical when you feel you are not getting involved in the game, and it is a very common mistake. You see the same thing, especially in children, they run towards where the ball is. But anyway, if he leaves his space, then someone else must occupy his area. Whoever occupies the space he seeks, must find a new area. Leeds just recently got battered by Tottenham 3-0, then lost to Crawley Town in the FA Cup 3-0, then got beat by Brighton at home and only just won their last game against Newcastle (A game that Newcastle had 22 shots and didn't deserve to lose).
